wow! Good one. I like the stone hinge sunset. I am so sorry, and what a nice, strong tribute to one who had more of the ideals the U.S. was founded on.

This deserves a 6 but I am out. Thank you for writing this deeply touching poem about a man that was a daily part of my life for so many years. Yes, I do remember that moment when his voice cracked, he took off his glasses and wiped away that single tear. That image has stayed with me always. It hard to imagine this world without this incredible man. Beautifully written and deeply moving. Again, thank you.

It's funny that your poems are good as they stand alone, but your notes amplify the meaning of your short writes to say volumes more. Great job with this.

Cory, thank you - I always hope the notes will be something additional but are not necessary to a reading of the poem on its own, so I appreciate your telling me that. Brooke :-)

I didn't see the news so your cinquain floored me. This is a moving man who will all remain apart of our country's history.

Annelisa, they broke into the show that was on at 8 pm last night to announce it - I wanted to write something right away but had to wait until this morning to get my act together :-) thank you. Brooke :-)

Oh, Brooke, what a touching tribute to a man well loved. Even up here he was just as famous - most of our programming was American, and still is. Though, I watched so little TV growing up, I do remember him. Thanks for sharing the little glimpses you remember of him with us, it will be a sad day for many.
Take care,
Heather

It used to be that reporters were supposed to remain unmoved--stoic--professional. I understand that and valued it when a reporter was able to keep his/her opinions to himself. But Walter Cronkite's voice cracking seemed to resonate with all Americans. It was time to stop being stoic. He showed us that even our heroes are human.

Lovely tribute, Brooke.

Ellie, precisely, when he broke from stoicism and objectivity in that moment - everything changed. Thanks so much for your perceptive read. Brooke :-)

Well done Brooke. I don't remember hearing the broadcast of Walter Cronkite till years after Kennedy's death. But I do remember what you're talking about. Nice tribute to the man.

"Walter Cronkite: in Memoriam" is a most beautifully written reflective cinquain and speaks volumes of the man and of this day. I listened to CNN last night and people were taking about this man. He was the most trusted man in the US in his day because he was so honest and like everyone else. CBS forced him to retire and replaced him with Dan Rather. He was paid 1 million/year in retirement, not bad. But they said he had many more years he could have worked. He was a very passionate man. How hard to believe, just days away from his 40th anniversary of that famous moon landing broadcast, this 92 year old legend is no longer with us. May he rest in peace, God Bless him. Thank you for writing this, it brings tears to my eyes.

Yes, the second I heard the announcement I thought to myself, had he lived a few more days it would be the anniversary of the moon walk. Thank you so much for your most thoughtful comments - I can see how much he meant to you too. Brooke :-)

Thank you, Margaret - he was a special special man to millions who welcomed them into their homes each night. I think he was a man of integrity and character, the sort of person who really ought to be memorialized. Brooke :-)
