Wow, that was fun and fantastic rhyme and rhythm throughout the entire composition! I love Grandma's comment toward the end...and the name Fleur. Very creative.

    Thank you.

This is for my series of Cautionary Tales inspired by Hilaire Belloc's poems - some of his miscellaneous characters make even dryer comments than Grandma's!

The really sad part is that there is a lot of parents who are much like this. Let allow our children to be children for a little while. They have a lifetime to solve all of the world's problems.

Ah, yes. For every cautionary tale there's a grain of truth.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Very funny, your mighty wit on full display. I see this all the time, parents pushing their kids so hard that they don't have any time to just be kids. "We know they scream, we know they dart, we know they...draw the curtain here"- hilarious, your comic timing, the drawing of the curtain spot-on.

    Thank you!

Don't think I can do comic timing in real life, but I know what it looks and feels like.

You write a great traditional style poem Steve, it's quite an undertaking to write something this length an maintain objectivity and interest even if one does a scan it perfectly! So well done, beautiful rhythmic meter, couplet rhyming, blessings, Roy.

    Thanks, Roy.

I am acutely aware that many reviewers won't even tackle lengthy poems. This is the second in a series of cautionary tales...

Awesome! Impeccable and innovative rhyme throughout coupled with great meter. And yes, I did know where it was going but not quite how you would resolve the journey. Hilarious and equally cautionary. Roald Dahl on a particularly dark say. Love it! Cheers - DJ

Thanks, DJ. Haven't seen you around in a while...

This is actually modelled to some extent on the Cautionary Tales of Hilaire Belloc, although updated - I hope to have a series of these eventually.

I am sure you read about the prodigy of last century-his father was the jerk-finished college in single digits and
burned out and was a shiftless ne'er do much afterward?
This was funny to the point of excellence.

    Thanks, Sam.

I could have entered it for a contest, but then I believe it's not eligible for Poem of the Month so in a way I'm shooting for that.

Nice cautionary tale on not overloading your poor child with more than she can handle. I love the humor. Some parents do think the child has to be exceptional right from the beginning and expert at everything.
I remember in high school calculating that if I did just the things my mother expected of me I could have four hours of sleep a night. To her dismay, I promptly dropped a few of the activities she loved so much and did what I wanted. Teenage rebellion? Sort of. I considered survival.

Thanks for the great review - yes, it's a fine line between wanting your child to explore options and do well and being the classic pushy parent. And all kids are different - some can take pushing, others rebel in different ways and some just break.
