Congratulations on your success. I was one who fail through the crack, twice. My left hip -1999- has always been painful. My right hip -2007- led to a heart attack with in seven hours after surgery, I am still experiencing pain in both hip joints.
Your essay is very well written.

Such is right girl. I work in a hospital and know this to be true. Better health for all of us out here. It's a wonderful thing ... to dance again.

I agree with your last paragraph. We can all tell the horror stories that people are only too happy to share about a bad medical procedure. How many are just as quick to talk about the good they've experienced? I think sometimes it's human nature to lean toward Eeyore in temperament and not Tigger or Winnie, seeing the good and happy.
But you're right, I've been the recipient of 99% great medical care.
We are blessed in this country.
You wrote a great story and I'm glad to hear you've had such a positive outcome.
Yay!

Luckily I am in good health and have no trouble with knees or hips so far. This story brought great incite into what such replacement surgery entails. I have to take my hat off to you for being such a good patient and following all the rules. Having faith in your doctor is a big plus into regaining your health. This was a very inspiring piece of work, thank you.

I love to dance and when I saw your banner ad, I had to check out this piece of prose. It's not actually about dancing, is it? lol very, very well written and wonderfully encouraging for anyone who may be in the market for one of these one day. I LOVED and laughed at:
"My surgeon, after five years of this type of work-out, has a well-muscled torso and could probably crush a bag of walnuts in his armpit." One of my closest friend's husband is an orthopedic surgeon and he has always looked very fit!

Great story! As someone who worked for a defense lawfirm in the field of medical malpractice I do know about the marvels of science and I worked for an orthopaedic surgeon who was brilliant, and it is absolutely amazing to see what an orthopaedic surgeon can accomplish. So glad you are better and that you can so eloquently inform others and educate people who may be fearful about such surgery or undecided. Very well told story. Stay healthy.

You set the stage well in explaining how painful and incapacitation your hip was
You describe the operation and post-surgery treatment well
You are a good champion of the state of health care for those who have access to excellent health insurance, and I don't doubt what you say at all. Now, for all of us millions who don't have that access, it's time to do something in our country so we can say the same thing about our health care, too. :-) Brooke

Thank you much for reading and generously reviewing my piece, Brooke. I do know how fortunate I am, and try to be mindful of the situation for millions of Americans when I go into the voting booth. Much appreciated, my friend. Warm regards, Bev

Hey Bev,
First of all, Praise God for the mercy and true blessings He gave you. I had a friend undergo that procedure and she was black and blue for months, from hip to knee.
Just remember not to push yourself too far too fast. Less is better at first, especially if you have snow or wind or anything that might upset your balance.
So happy for you,
Hugs,
Gayle
