Your poem is quite touching, especially knowing a bit of your personal history, but even without that knowledge it echoes the concept of the phoenix rising out of ashes with rebirth. The rispetto is the perfect vehicle for your theme and your alliteration dresses it so well.

I know it was a long time ago, but I was touched by your words. It is indeed a cycle that has always gone on and always will.

Hi Brooke,

A lovely rispetto carrying an eternal truth with it. We do forget that the cycle of life includes death and renewal. Yet, a hundred years ago, every family had an intimate acquaintance with death on a regular basis.

It's very hard to remember that time goes on, the world goes on, when a tragedy like the death of a loved one happens. I lost my sister 15 years ago, and while life has gone on, I still feel like it happened yesterday. I have to stop myself from reaching for the phone to call her when I have good news to share. My only comfort is knowing I will see her again one day.

You've done such a lovely job on this rispetto. I loved the elements you chose to represent 'life goes on'--the baby and the flowers--and the second stanza was especially poignant, the way you acknowledged that others passed on when you were born. Beautifully crafted, my friend.

Hugs and blessings,
Diane

Thank you, Diane - I know just how you feel. So many times I want to share something with my dad, who died over 20 years ago or just wish my mother could be there even though I barely remember her. Brooke :-)

Hi Brooke. This one hits home and
I'll be referring back to it before
I will be ready to read it again. As
a note, my mother's mother died six weeks
after mama was born. Thanks for sharing
this most thoughtful, and for me, a most
comforting poem. -ray

Thank you, Ray. Oh, to lose one's mother before any memories are possible - I thought my few fragmented memories were bad enough. Brooke

The day I die love's blush will bloom,
a babe will breathe his first full breath,

When I think about the brevity of life, I can only cling to the One who exchanged His Eternal Life, for my eternal death.

Blessed poem indeed

Brooke,
You've written a poignant Reflective Rispetto poem. Your poem is about the circle of life. Its true life and death walk hand in hand. An amazing piece of verse you've written. Rhyme and descriptive writing are excellent. The art work you picked is lovely. Great title 'The Day I Die.' Your words hold a special place in my heart because it reminded me when my little sister died almost 7 years ago a baby was born. I can't pick my favorite line because your entire poem was beautifully written. It brought tears to my eyes. A six star poem unfortunately I can only give you five.
Melissa.
