Yes, such was the bliss of being a child in them days. Adventure beckoned in so many ways because we made it happen. Children today probably think "Oh how impoverished where kids in them days, not having the toys and amenities so prevalent today. But what memories will a game console have on them when they are adults? Great poem Brooke.

Dave, I've heard kids say just that!! they can't begin to imagine what we did without all their electronic devices :-) And yes, can you imagine poems about Madden football? Thanks, Brooke

The author has once again communicated so well the essence of her characters; this time children who 'lied with brash impunity' while enjoying forbidden adventures. Childhood should always be as such.

Oh, and she has won me over with the use of images to enhance her poems, something I was not earlier in favor of!

Hi Brooke, boy this brought memories flooding back to when I was a kid. My friends and I would often go to the local creek where we were forbidden to go by our parents. Unaware of the dangers etc. As long as we got our tadpoles and played pirates. Lol.

A really cute poem, with a cute picture to match. Good flow and rhyme.

Best wishes,
Malcolm

Malcolm, thanks - we played Cowboys and Indians most of the time with our cool silver cap guns - not so much Pirates. :-) Brooke

what a fun write with a great picture to go along with it, that is exactly how kids are, only when they are having fun do they not complain about things such as bugs biting.

Nope, kids can tolerate anything if it's their idea and they're having fun - but ask them to wait in a grocery line for three minutes and they lose all tolerance for suffering. LOL Thanks so much, Brooke :-)

Brooke, this is charming. The picture you have painted is vivid, especially the imagery of the poison ivy lying in wait. I can picture those days, the lost days of innocent youth when we didn't know better. Now we stay away from things like poison ivy and we spray mosquitoes. What happened to those days when we didn't care? I don't know enough about the rispetto form to be able to comment with any authority, but I like it enough that I might try it (after some research - lol). This is a lovely summer memory poem. Thanks for sharing. ~Barb

Adorable photo matches this cute little nostalgic journey through the pros and cons of playing in the creek.

LOL

Amusing write. Well done with witty tone...
and nit free. (of course)

What a marvelously delightful trip back in time. The joy of being a child with determination and without fear. I love the line ... Yet every opportunity we lied with brash impunity ... that put me into a time warp instantly transporting me back to my own special moments. This is superb writing and really took me down memory lane. Thank you so very much.

Brooke, you little tinker, as we used to say back in Liverpool. (Ellie still calls me a tinker sometimes :)

I can see you as a child in the angelic picture you chose to accompany your words.

A wonderful piece of whimsy. :) Cheered me up no end.

Your poem and notes bring back memories of my childhood back in the 50s. Although we didn't have a creek close to our home, all the neighborhood kids got together to jump rope, ride bikes, play hop scotch, tetherball, red rover,
tag ...

It's funny how intrigued you all were with a creek of swarming mosquitoes and poison plants ... a perfect place for adventure.
