You know, Brooke, war appals me. Yet, without the sacrifice of these soldiers we would surely live in a very different world. Your poem is powerful and brings to mind all the suffering and bloodshed. A great write.
Warmest wishes and hugs

First of all, Adewpearl, thank you for using your writing gift to keep so many memories alive in the mind of your readers. The ceremonies were powerful this morning. I kind of tuned out some of the speeches and concentrated on the faces of the veterans, precision of the military and especially the fly-over.

Concentrating on the Vets is not a bad idea - as the final WWI Vets die - soon it will be the vets from this war. Thank you, Brooke :-)

I truly wish I had six stars to give this writing! It so well thought out and portrayed. Very good word choices and usage. You captured a lost moment in time that will be remembered by everyone who lived during that time. Thanks for sharing this and for writing it. Sharon

I salute you and your efforts on this poem...I was in a breifing today and made a comment jokingly-does today's date have historical significance? Some looked at me funny, but most knew I was joking. I'm kind of a comedian I guess. I appreciate your efforts to capture time and educate the public. Good work.

Where would we be without people like you to remind us of why we are able to live the way we do. It may not be perfect, but certainly the best place in the world. joan marie

Normandy was a horrible battle, and so many lives were lost on that day. Your poem says it all in rhyme and is very well written, Brooke. : ) Judy

Thanks, Brooke, for reminding me in this moving tribute to be grateful today to those whose blood's been shed for me and to pause to remember. I love the first stanza of this poem and the second, though written with poetic license evident, works too.
I almost forgawt to buy a wreath for the cemetery but you reminding me in time so I ran out and bot one! :>) Thanks for a good read and an honestly moving poem.
