THis is beautiful Brooke. You've painted quite a picture here with your words. I love your final line: 'God's divine design.' You have it all in such few words - rhymes, internal rhymes and alliteration. I've never seen a hummingbird but from what I've seen on TV they're absolutely beautiful. I'd love to see one. Thanks for your notes too.

Roisin, thank you - oh, they are just beautiful and fairy-like - so tiny and fluttering. :-) Thanks, Brooke

Hi, Brooke. I'll have to plant some of that 'sharon' stuff for when I next run out of 'wine'. Mind you, hummingbirds will be shot on site if they try to pinch any. LOL!
Nice write. Ray xx

Thinking of joining the NRA? That seems to be their philosophy! LOL

You do seem to have your share of nutters, Brooke.
Good job us Brits are all normal. ;-) xx

We have our share of nutters and then a boatload more for good measure :-) How you didn't manage to migrate here remains a mystery. :-D

These are extremely hard to write and you have done well. I especially like the working in of rhyme. The two stanzas have a nice contrast between flora and fauna. Good juxtaposition of picture and poem.

Two of my favorite things in one poem -- Rose of Sharon and hummingbirds. How did you know? I love the picture. I love the poem, and yes, they are God's divine design. I keep a calendar with hummingbirds on it every year.

Lovely, lovely septolet, Brooke. The flower bird imagery is sharp and the last line is just perfect commentary on the scene you have just word-painted.
Great job.

I was not aware that the rose of sharon attracts hummingbirds, but it does make sense, since plants are colorful and probably sweet smelling/tasting, which are all things that lure these jeweled creatures.
Your ensemble has everything: your poem portrays a beautiful picture duplicated by the artwork and harmonizing colors you chose, and you included rhyme, alliteration and delightful rhythm.

Joan, I googled plants that attract hummingbirds and got a list of ten - this is then mentioned in a bunch of websites as a good hummingbird plant. Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Brooke :-)

So I should expect nine more beautiful plant poems! I am so glad we have google, but I know without it, you would make it your business to go to the library to do your research. Bottom line, we have more time to write poetry with the good time saving technologies. Have a great weekend and enjoy your jewelry booth volunteering.
