Hi Brooke.
What a treat to read the poem... and another to read your notes. I did not know the story of the Norse soldier screaming in pain and warning the Scots. Loved it all.

Ellie, Who knows if it actually happened, but according to websites, every Scottish schoolchild learns that story about why the thistle is their emblem. :-) Thanks so much, Brooke

Brooke, very nice entry into the contest...wish you best of luck in the voting booth. Lovely cadence to the poem with very good flow and rhyme. Nice presentation...a strong contender, I am sure! Hugs and smiles, Susanne

Susanne, thank you - these words just jumped out at me from the list - the first time I've ever done one of the list challenges :-) Brooke

As usual, Brooke, so witty and so well-rhymed. your poem is also light-hearted, despite the warning, and you've presented such a brilliant contrast. Your notes, too, are very interesting. Peter

Peter, thank you - this is the first time I've ever attempted one of the contests where a list of words is part of the challenge though I always read the lists when the contests are announced. With this list, the words I used just jumped out at me. Brooke :-)

This is something quite different,
Brooke -- thoroughly enjoyable.
with a little history thrown
in -- I do like reading your
little snippets.

Well penned, my friend. I'd give you a six if I could.

We are off to take our 94 year old gentleman friend to lunch - it's a lovely sunny day so we should have a nice
trip out. Hope your day goes well.

Take care,
Margaret.

Actually a thistle is a blight upon one's lawn, but they has such beauty, with a philosophical analogy to a great woman, that I drove the neighbors nuts in saving one for seeds.

I enjoyed your well written poem and the encompassing story that went with it. I like the comparison with the oak. Both can thrive.

Excellent rhyme to personify the humble thistle, Brooke.
If I were it, I'd keep my strength secret and surprise a few, LOL. Very enjoyable read. Ray xx

Very cute theme and well expressed as well as nicely presented with apt artwork and color scheme to match the theme.

Interesting response to the contest.

Love the message of humility....which has its own power, quite formidable.

Lots of Love,
