The wheel is such a simple thing, and yet... without it, we would be lost. It truly does work hard. It seems such a simple invention, and yet - so far as I know, only man uses it in his daily travails. Your mind, like the wheel is always spinning such interesting material. Thanks for sharing this cinquain with us. Rose.

My grandmother had one. I was always fascinated by them. Could imagine myself sitting at it in the 'olden days' Great write. joan marie

The poem is about wheels - the picture is one small example of the many types of wheels civilization employs. Thanks, Brooke

A spinning wheel. Will you do more? jm

do more of what? I'm confused :-)

I thought maybe you were considering a series on different type of wheels and the use of them. The spinning wheel making thread, etc. Just coming off 20 days of antibiotics and it could just be me. jm

No, the poem is about all kinds of wheels but I couldn't use a picture of dozens of kinds of wheels, so I had to choose one - this is my overall, one and only wheel poem :-)

The wheel huh? What won't you write about? The wheel certainly was a marvelous invention and we are certainly well off because of it. I guess that it just had to be, though. tony

Tony, thank you - hey, it's one of the central inventions of civilization - why NOT write about it? LOL Brooke :-)

You've given me an idea for a short story, where we never had the wheel, and humans do not understand the concept of curves, onl lines and angles. The octagon was a great failure, as was the new, improved dodecagon. In the end, we invented flying craft, and cloth is woven by enslaved schools of battery spiders. Humankind, thou art bizarre.

Was that weirder than usual for me? Who knows. It's getting late, and I'm tired, but the story still appeals on some level :-)

Hey, I can't wait to read the story! I cannot even imagine our world without the wheel when you think of all the machinery that has wheels within it! Thanks, Brooke

You're most welcome--or that's at least my take on your piece. I could be wrong.

There is definitely something beautiful about a prosaic tool that fulfills its purpose. Much like a human being who finds and fulfills his purpose. Great poem, Brooke.

Those spinning wheels have been a prop in so many stories. And though they are no longer used much, I think almost every kid who reads fairy tales knows what a spinning wheel is. Function is so much more important, in the long run, before aesthetic beauty. Excellent. Blessings, Linda

Where would we be without the wheel? Still in caves I would imagine and sewing garments together with ligaments from prey animals and their hides. Kudos, the wheel deserves a good poem. ;)
