Your poetry is always so fresh and vibrant, Tony. The words in this one have some stunning imagery. You describe the chase of fish vs frigate brilliantly, even though we could easily guess the poor fish didn't stand a chance against the powerful wings and sharp beak.
When we were on our cruise last year, we saw loads of those frigate birds in St. Kits. They are huge an so graceful. A virtual six, I'm afraid, my friend, but I hope there are still some around for this excellent poem. Well done, it was a pleasure to read. :)) Sandra xx

Hi, Sandra. Thank you for your lovely words of encouragement and support. I very much appreciate your review and comments. I once saw these birds on a trip to Belize but confess that the details of their behaviour are largely drawn down from the Great God Google. All good wishes, Tony

A very well-written terza rima inspired by the Frigate Birds in flight and their playful way to get in position to get to the fish they want that will reveal their position at the perfect time.

This is a perfect terza rima. There are so many that are similar but subtly different, and I can never remember them, beautifully done, is this an ekphrastic work Tony, I love these ones, easier to do, similar to the Constanza, well done my friend, blessings, Roy

Hi, Roy. Thank you for your words of encouragement and support. As always, I very much appreciate your review. No, this wasn't ekphrastic. The poem came first, then I had to go searching the WWW for a suitable image. All good wishes, Tony

Good morning, Tony
Lovely to be back and read your fine poetry again.
This Terza rima poem brings the accompanying picture alive as you describe, skillfully, the Frigates diving into the sea and fish.
My fav line is-- these well-fletched arrows, black and sleek
The rhyme scheme and meter you describe below looks to be easy enough but I dare say I'd struggle to write anything of this calibre.
Kind regards

So nice to hear from you, Tracey. I very much value your supportive review. I'm not posting much these days, I'm afraid, as I'm mainly engaged in the tedious task of editing a novel. The longer I spend on it, the more I find that needs editing!

Hi there, Tony.
It was a pleasure to read.
As I've been absent from the site, I've missed the novel. I assume you wrote here on FS?

These birds seem formidable and hunt the poor tuna fish below in the plankton. A fine descriptive poem, well rhymed and your story was brought to life with your well chosen words Tony, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thanks, Dolly. They're thieves among seabirds, seizing the catch away from other birds, as well as swooping down on the flying fish flushed out of the water by tuna and other predatory fish.

A great Terza Rima, Tony, and I wish I had a six for it. This is a difficult form and you execute it wonderfully. Nice descriptive imagery and visuals. You do these frigate birds justice in your poem.
these well-fletched arrows, black and sleek,
begin their meteoric dive
with sanguine throat and billhook beak.

Thanks, Yelena. I tossed ideas around for this one for several days. I think this is Version Ten!

Stunning--startling and elegant imagery--interesting rhyming scheme--kudos for taking on the challenge--I stick with abba ad abab! Flawless flow. Cheers. LIZ

Thanks, Liz. ABBA and ABAB serve us well, and they're certainly a darned sight easier than some of these rhyme schemes that have to be stitched together!

Love this beautiful portrait you paint of this species of bird I otherwise would know nothing about. Your lovely word imagery makes me want to witness them in action ;) Well done.
