Sounds as if most Hollywood marriages. Good poem. Has a very deep meaning. Sad somewhat but real in most cases. Shalom my friend.

This is a sad reality. All too often love affairs come to an end. True love is hard to find. I love your picture. The faded rose whose thorn has wounded it's admirer. Well done! Nancy

Well written this piece. I could feel the pain as I read. And that's what makes a good poem. To make the reader feel what you feel. The effects of your comma use, for me slows the flow down and enhances the affect. Thanks for sharing!

I love the picture. I love the poem. We often hang on even after the love is lost. Then we finally have to face that our actions are doing no good. Love is gone. We have to move on. Great work.

I enjoyed reading your poem and I love the photograph you chose to accompany it. It fits perfectly! You are right to ask that age old question: Is it better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all? I think it is, how about you? Great poem.

Sad but true - these events happen all the time. A happy relationship is something to be treasured and nurtured. Hope this is fiction. A good read. Regards Dorothy

Hi, DW.

Very expressive poem! You share a little story here. I like the simplicity of words which will allow the readers to connect with it.

Nice opening:

In courage I was first to face that truth,

The things we had, now gone,

I like the consistent meter in these lines. You should use a period after 'gone', not a comma.

Good shift in tone:

Cold was her heart for the man she had loved,

Set, ready, move on,

I like how you've captured it from both his and her perspectives.

Apt closing:

We played that game for friends or fame

Knowing the end was close, if not gone,

Again, a period after 'gone'. Nice use of rhyming.

It is evocative in nature and is impacting, too.

Regards,
Anupam

Lost love is hard to face and deal with. I have often wondered how a love apparently pure could change. Your poem is very well written and I enjoyed reading.

It's sometimes hard to move on from a position that has changed, I love this poem that is philosophically moving from a hopeless position to a place were you are able to move forward and not return to a hopeless place! Well done blessings, Roy.

I think that this piece is timeless. Feeling the inevitability of the end, the presence of absence, and still being able to move forward is captivated wonderfully in this piece. Well done!
