When asleep and dreaming you can be anything you want to be - happy, content and peaceful. You are able to escape from life itself and enter a pretend world that's safe and serene. But when awake reality hits and fears/responsibilities/worries all come flooding back. Why must this be so? Why can't the serenity of dreams continue on into the daylight?
The triolet form is well suited to this topic showing your mind questioning, worrying about things while also floating along peacefully, like the swan on the lake - a true depiction of a peaceful dream.

Lovely! And how true, our daily aches and pains come back to reality when we wake up. Sometimes dreams are so comforting I wish not to wake up, wanting the fantasy to continue.

In analysis this has layers and layers of meaning akin to running rubble through a sieve and retrieving flakes of gold at the end of the process. Simply beautiful, Brooke. :)

This work has reached the exceptional level

You could be chanting this to jada, Brooke. In my dreams I am a swan, so free and unencumbered by any nonsense of the world. Sometimes one can just dig your head under the pillow and keep on dreaming.
This triolet is beautiful. I have never given you a six and think you deserve one now.
You always make my day with a lovely poem.:) luv jada

Brooke,

Your french triolet is just beautiful! I can't believe
that you were able to find artwork to match your poem
so well.

Your poem 'glides' smoothly across the page and I especially
liked these lines:

"Why must my fears awake with dawn,
replacing peace with throbbing ache"

I can also relate to them...

Linda

Brooke, another good one with the repeating lines. I'm not sure why that adds so much to a poem, but it sure hits my 'comfort' spot.

Thank you, pat

It hits my comfort spot too - my daughter hates them, but hey, I can't do everything just to please her! LOL Thanks so much, Pat :-) Brooke

Another delicious write.

I swear, you are the Julia Childs of poetry.

I especially liked:Why must my fears awake with dawn,
replacing peace with throbbing ache
while in my dreams I am a swan
who glides upon a peaceful lake?

There are more than one days when I ask myself this very question.

Hello Brooke.
Even the title is lyrical. This is an exceptionally well written and musical triolet. Because the words fall so soft it heightens the distinction between dreams and life. I love this. Rebecca

So am I. If I couldn't hear the music in that one I think I'd need to give up on poetry completely Brooke. lol

Brooke,
You've mastered another troilet. I like the theme of the narrator dreaming of being a swan. Vivid imagery. Your rhyme is perfect. I love the repeating refrain. 'In Dreams I am a Gliding Swan.' Awesome art work you've picked. I liked the lines:

while in my dreams I am a swan.
Why must my fears awake with dawn,
replacing peace with throbbing ache

Another outstanding reflective triolet. Swans are such beautiful birds.
Melissa.
