Your poem highlights to me how puny we are in the universe. Our existense here only a flash when campared to the millions of years that the stars have been in the heavens, and the earth itself rotated around our own little star. Orions's belt and beyond are wonders that will always put the plight of this one little world and one little person in it into perspective. As Q said to Jean-Luc Piccard in Star Trek when Jean-Luc discovered he had made a mistake that would undo our universe. "Come now John-Luc, do you think you can un-do this? You are just not that important."

I have no idea - sometimes I just say to myself - I want to write a quatern, and then I start thinking in eight syllable lines until the repeating line appears that sounds cool, and then I write it down four times and tell myself I'd better think of a way to write a poem around them. LOL
Thank you, Deb. Brooke

Brooke, this is fantastic. It is one of the few constellations in the night sky that I can still see with any clarity! You have researched so well too. I was unaware that it is mentioned in so many ancient texts. Very well written. The result is - perfect.
Warm wishes and hugs

Yes, it is such an easy one to spy - at least the belt part is. Thanks so much, Kat. Brooke

Very well done!
I love our classical references....
I also appreciate you language usage!
Your verse is a class act.
Esepcailly liked:
My legendary exploits told
by storytellers 'cross the globe,
I dreamed I wore Orion's belt,
loosed only by the God of Job.

Dear Brooke, my most favorite of all constellations. Your notes accompanying this post very informative. His scabbard a spiral nebulae. Betelgeuse and Rigel his brightest stars as he tries to ward off Taurus
with his bright eye Aldebaron.
Such a magnificent dream and for such a lovely reason:
"for wand'ring souls who'd lost their way,
whose course my stars could set aright."
Marvelous flow and rhyme.
One point: In your notes you mention Ursa Major has the North Star- -I believe the North star is the last star in the "handle" of Ursa Minor.
Not trying to be elitist. For this is an incredibly, fantastic read and enhanced by the your notes.

Elitist? You're just the one who knows science! Thanks for telling me :-) And thank you for you lovely review :-) Brooke

You have such a brilliant mind- -so science isn't your forte, but I doubt that- -just didn't want someone else pointing this out- -the notes are great as they always are and I thing your poem enhances them not the reverse.

Fascinating history, Brooke. I enjoyed your quatern very much. I new very little about Orion's belt. You have a wonderful way of teaching us all. Annelisa :)

Again, I say WOW! The rythm of this poem just captures the reader. I love the allusions to the bible and the iliad and also the one between job and God! Great job with the oem and the author's notes! ~:O) J

Loved this one, dark mysterious and evocative. Nightime is magical and to gaze upon the stars is a precious experience. Reminding us of how small we are in comparison to the universe.
