Hi, Brooke. I enjoy your poetry so much nowadays with all the meter you incorporate, as demonstrated so well here. I'm no religious expert, so it's hard to comment on that, but your Faith and excellent message shines through.
Love, Ray xx

Excellent advice my friend! You do a great service by trying to educate the masses with your practical insights and ideas. I don't give anything up, myself, but perhaps I could give up a few bucks for the cause now that I am working again.

Penny, I can't afford to give money so I volunteer - others donate used clothing or kitchen items - others buy one get one free at the market and donate the free one - there are lots of ways to help for folks on a budget. thanks so much, Brooke

You are so right in this piece of poetry some people have so much that they could give up for forty days they find it hard to choose Then there are the others who are so poor and have nothing well done again regards Fuller

A powerful message, indeed! Your words hold
much wisdom and direct us to think in those
stark terms aboutb those who have no
"extras" to give up. This is a super poem!

Enjoyed both the poem and the notes. I have given up a lot this year and won't go back, mainly to try to get a hand up on survival. The poem is well written and conveys the tradition very well.

Mike, yes, that's another good function of the tradition - it teaches us to live a simpler life that might carry over to the rest of the year. Thank you, Brooke

Brooke, this is a lovely poem with wonderful rhymes and rhythm, with a very important message to us. Your notes were wonderful too. In Ireland, it's common practice too, for us to give up something that we enjoy for the period of lent. In all the christian schools, the children are given a little box from a charity (one of our biggest charities called Trocaire) and we keep the box at home during the period of lent. The idea behind it is, as you've suggested, we all donate the money that would have been spent on sweets or whatever we've given up. I also have a rule in my house that we all give something up but also take something on. For example, for the children, they might decide something as simple as an act of kindness to one person every day or being more giving of their time to their younger siblings. You're right in what you're saying. It's not enough to deprive ourselves of something we enjoy, we have to turn that into a positive and a benefit for those less fortunate. You've done a great job here in sending out a veyr important message. Well done.

Hugs

Roisin x

Roisin, I love the idea of taking something on as an additional part of Lenten giving - you sound like one helluva mother!! :-) You are raising those children right - thank you, Brooke

So true this poem. Lent to me should be accompanied by action. The flow of this poem is perfect for me. I especially like the last verse! Once again great job!

Very nice Easter piece, lent is something I personally don't do, but a great number of people I know do. You did a beautiful poem.

excellent writing, my dear friend. Great message that is inspirational. It's a shame that people can no longer take a deduction on charitable giving, huh? That's gonna really hurt these institutions that do so very much for the less fortunate.

Great poem, brooke.

What a thoughtful and dear piece. Aside from the wonderfully adept rhyme and meter, your message is selfless and creative entwined. "Some do without for forty days -- some live Lent all year long." Very profound. I enjoyed this a lot.
