Brooke - Nope. Don't remember cut up cakes. My grandmother was the best cook and baker but did not make these desserts. I remember a Davey Crocket cake she made for my birthday and loved her 7 layer apricot cake and all the other sweets she made. Loved the poem. Great rhyme and pace. Charlie.

I loved cake and loved Davy Crockett - that sounds like a way cool combination! LOL And you're making me most hungry with mention of 7 layer apricot cake!! Oh, Charlie, what a seducer of women you are! :-) Thanks so much,Brooke :-)

This is so much different than I am normally expecting from your writing ... and so deeply touching that I must take a short walk through the house now to swallow the lump in my throat. Outstanding is an understatement. XO

I just noticed this: you've been here two
months and you're ranked 7th. It certainly
is not because of this poem. Fluff! That's
what I call it. Pretty fluffy fluff. Poof!
It's good. It's gone. Yours, Fish

Lovely! What a sweet memorial to your mother. Your poem has a good flow, and I enjoy the rhyme. I do remember other mothers making cakes like the ones you describe, and they looked yummy. (My mother made cookies - plain but delicious.) Well done!

Cookies are good, too, especially the holiday ones with the cookie cutters - we had so many of them! :-) Thanks, Brooke

What a lovely memory and how nice to share with your daughter. The poem is well written and tells such a good story. Yes, I do remember those cakes and even have the butterfly mold pan that my mother had to do the baking.
Excellent reflection. LadyMary

Ah, the fun of these is that there was no mold - they were rather primitive. They all started with a sheet cake that was then cut into various rectangles and triangles, the pieces all placed together with icing. Thanks for sharing your memory and for your lovely response, Brooke :-)

This is a great poem taking us back to the good old days when baking was real and we did not buy it from a shop - ready-made. I don't think there is anything as good as the memories of our Mother's cooking, memories that bring her back to us again and again. Even though she has passed our memories linger on. Thanks for sharing your cooking smells that were wafting across the Pacific Ocean!

Great poem. I remember them because my mom still loves to back and does them sometimes. She likes the bunny at Easter time. Such a wonderful memory this poem has captured. Loved it. Thanks, Jeanette

A nice little poem, for sure. I found no errors or forced wording. It had a nice, even pitch. No,I must say, I do not remember these cakes. I guess my mom was not the cut-up kind.
