For me there is a very uneven meter to this poem that makes the read a little strange for me. I like the thought behind it, and the imagery, but for me the meter is a bit off.

Hi, Adewpearl. You're producing lots of great works here in such a short time. I enjoyed your reminiscing about backyard treasures and can certainly identify. One of my favourites spots when I was growing up in Ireland was the canal behind our house. I had lots of favourite spots, loved collecting the wild orchids and staring into the fresh water stream. Yes, you've brought back lovely memories. Penelope

Oh, I had a creek a couple blocks from me, so I can identify :-) Thanks for sharing your memories and letting me know that my memories triggered yours. :-)

I love to read your poetry. It is always so inventively child-like and so much of it reminds me of some of the things I did as a child. There were no computers to distract back in the 50's and the world outside the house was a treasure trove of wonder. Excellent imagery and rhythm to this poem. Blessings, Linda

thank you so much for this thoughtful response - yes, we often explored outdoors because indoors just had so fewer attractions tucked away inside than kids have today! :-)

Hullo Adewpearl .....

Thank you for sharing with us, your wonderment and appreciation of the little treasures in nature. Such things have always been my delight as well. Sometimes, I look down at a really tiny little wild flower and think that mine will be the only eyes to behold this masterpiece of God's creation.
From a writing point of view, in one or two of your lines, the metre could be improved but, generally speaking, you have expressed your thoughts well and clearly and provided your readers with vivid imagery.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
With love from .... Nanette Mary.

That's how I always felt, too. Finding a bird's nest or "helicoptor leaves" (that's what I called them) is WAY more exciting than boring old jewels and gold. :) I had a small wonderland of my own; and I remember so vividly looking down from my window, looking into the branches of the tree in our front yard, and seeing a baby robin hatch out of its little blue shell. It was amazing to watch. :) Thanks for this delightful poem and bringing back such lovely memories to me.

adewpearl,
Sometimes we need a reminder of the childlike quality of
wonder. They're so curious and ask questions. They notice the
small things and gain so much joy. Thanks for the reminder. I remember blowing dandelions.

Hi Pearl....the picture of this new born bird really caught my eye. Isn't it wonderful that a child can get so much pleasure out of the simple things...do bad we have to grow up! I could see myself in this poem and I bet those who read it will do the same....blessings....chey

adewpearl, I think we all too often believe we are to count our treasures in money and not in the vast wonders of the world to which we have been gifted. I think your treasures will last a lot longer than money--especially in today's economy. great job.

Very nice nostalgic ode to the joys and innocence of childhood memories. sounds like you lived in a sort of bird sanctuary. I thought the rhymes worked pretty well and the cadence was solid for the most part. I really liked it. That illustration is all wrong though.

Oh, I know the illustration is weird - had the hardest time finding a plain old nest or one with just eggs in it! :-D Thanks for your kind words about the poem :-)
