Well crafted poem that conveys a powerful
message about the demise of empires when
they lost their way.
Excellent aabb rhyme and strong meter.

The timing couldn't be better, at least in the U.S. with the coming elections and the epitome of pride, who might very well get elected, could take us and a lot of other countries down to God's rubble. Thanks for the reminder, Roy and, as always, God Bless.

Royowen, first off, you have a typo...second to last line... should be bible?? Now, to the poem... very well said. I love the message. Your rhyme and rhythm are very nice as well. Thank you for sharing your unique perspective with us.

Hi Roy,
I have not read a poem in a long time that reads so well and is so true.
Oh, how the mighty fall. It is true that pride comes before a fall. We see time and time again but it is the people who suffer at the hands of these so called great and mighty rulers. I worry for our future and where this is all leading to.
A really great read.

Your poem is certainly thought provoking. We have come so far, have drifted from the inscription on our statue. It is difficult in this time to adhere to the principles on which this country was founded. Evi

Hi, Roy. Your poem flows very smoothly and the rhyming couplets work well. The message is a reminder from history - empires come and go. It is the lesson, so eloquently expressed in Shelley's great poem Ozymandias, with the great irony in its final lines where the great king boasts on his statue, 'Look in my works, ye mighty, and despair.' yet 'nothing beside remains./The lone and level sands stretch far away.'

I am wondering about the purpose of the double dash and the ellipsis in the final two lines...

This is fantastic!!! The exalted will be humbled and the humble will be exalted. Time has proven this time and time again. This poem isn't just biblically accurate, but it's also very well written. I love the rhyming and the flow of this poem. It's amazing that you combined history with scripture and created this eloquently written poem. REALLY REALLY GREAT JOB !!!

Yes, Sir, I don't know if it's possible to have said it better. Our country seems to have forgotten all the things that made us great, and as we know, "The meek shall inherit the earth." It will take faith and humility to turn this world around, but unfortunately, we've come to only believe in the things we can see or touch. Thanks for the pleasure of reading another of your fine poems.
