Hi Brooke,
Love your thoughts about the Month of May at least we know that Spring is really here
(recall the saying,
April showers bring May flowers.

I think the dogwoods are my favorite trees of all. I miss seeing them. People here in Texas love the magnolia tree but I don't like them. Your poem was delightful. It made me anxious to be in my pool and watching the hummingbirds again. Well done.

We have magnolias and dogwood - I have always favored the dogwood but I love all the flowering trees :-) Thanks, Norma Jean : -) Brooke

Wow, Brooke, you've been very busy writing poetry lately. Must be the Spring is inspiring you. Another beautiful poem. A little early, since May is three weeks away. But you give us something to look forward to. Thanks. Dusty

Thanks, Dusty - I pretty much post one poem a day. May is my favorite month, so I just jumped the gun a bit. LOL Brooke :-)

Hi Brooke,

I just reviewed a poem of Margaret's about spring and now yours...I am longing for spring! I hate to sound like a broken record but it snowed here again last night! This is just so beautiful and well written ottava rima that I am jealous. (smile) Well done....blessings....chey

It snowed again? Isn't there an office where you can register an official complaint?? LOL I'm so sorry, dear friend. Hang in there, Chey- it really can't keep up forever. Brooke :-)

When you write these do you count along the way or do you write it and then count it later. I think this is so much skill. So much talent. I loved the words, and the play of it all, very well done!

Oh, I count each and every line as I write it - I usually don't go on to line two until I'm really happy with line one :-) Thank you, Dall. Brooke :-)

Brooke,
Another masterpiece of structured verse you've written. Beautiful art work and presentation. Wonderful imagery. Great use of alliteration. Spot on rhyme and meter. The lines I liked the best:

When hummingbirds who've dropped by for a drink
watch fawns' first fumbling steps with merriment,
When Johnny-Jump-Up gives the brook a wink,
whose waters burble by with blithe content

Thanks for sharing your ottava rima celebrating May and spring.
Melissa.

How beautifully you've summed up the advent of Spring!

My mother loved to watch the hummingbirds in her garden, and I can't see a hummingbird without thinking of her and remembering her love for all creation.

Not surprisingly, my favorite lines in your poem are:
"When hummingbirds who've dropped by for a drink
watch fawns' first fumbling steps with merriment,"
but as usual, I love the whole poem. I wonder how you so consistently turn out beautiful poem after beautiful poem.

Hopefully we will have this wonderful weather in May. This is a very nice piece. I am waiting for my Johnny-jump-ups to start to pop up.
