I cant believe that it only takes you two hours to write these haikus. My problem would be cutting this lovely description from 200 words down to 12.

Some of these words are so beautiful in the way they have captured this image; hang on a second, let me count: yep, there's 12 of them. But the "wood's canopy" image is priceless.

Thanks, John - oh, not being able to use more words kills me - sometimes I would give my soul for a rule that would allow me one extra syllable!! That happened today, as a matter of fact :-) Brooke

If it makes you feel any better, I have had one in the works for about two weeks now and another in the works for a couple of months (that one is going to be tricky and I knew it once I got it in my head, but I still want to do it *LOL*).
Reading a haiku is always fun because you never know what you'll find (sounds like something Forest would say *LOL*). Sometimes they can be easy, taking only minutes to jot down, or they can take hours to write. It really is fun:)
This one painted such a nice picture for me that now I want to go look them up and see what they need to grow. *LOL* I don't have a green thumb anymore:)
Great job!!! All your hard work paid off:)
Jaded:)

Jaded, thank you - I don't have a green thumb either, which is probably one reason I enjoy flowers that grow wild so much! :-) Brooke

Brooke,

I can't shoot you. I really like your twelve words, and the images they have produced. "...below woods' canopy"
and "splendor in the shade" are such beautiful images, because they are so restful to me. Thank you for the moment.

Fondly, Lyle

Thank you, my dear friend. :-) This is a most generous and encouraging review - you've made my day filled with sunshine though where I live has not had one single sunny day in all of June :-) Brooke

The haiku is perfect in structure and the description of the flower is spot on.
"blooms below woods' canopy" clever.
Well done

Good things take time, Brooke! I love your haiku, I shy away from them because I don't write them that well. The picture goes perfect with your words about the jack-in-the-pulpit. Looking forward to more.

Love,

Jenny *smile*

Jenny, I don't think I've written a dozen total so far, on any subject. They kill me. Thanks so much, Brooke :-)

The quality in your words always shines through Brooke, So it is two hours well spent. The only thing I will shoot is my admiration of you.
It is funny though, sometimes my writing is speedy and flows ....other times I sit there, a puzzled look on my face, just blank.

Lol. Maybe I will in my next story about you. lol. It's amazing how much time it can take to put your heart into words. You did fabulous on this haiku, Booke! It was well worth the time you spent creating it. : ) Judy

I think it's a wonderful idea, rather like my bird haiku, and I get the opportunity to study your expertise! You are honest to say it took you two hours, but I think the quality shows, Brooke. Your poem is as beautiful as the plant, which we also have in Britain, though I can't be sure whether it's a sub-species. Peter

Peter, thank you - though I think my next wildflower haiku may take a while to post - you obviously have less trouble with these little buggers as your bird haiku come out in timely fashion :-) Brooke :-)

Well, we enjoy the same things and it shows in our poetry.

With regard to the salient features of a bird featured in my haiku, Brooke, I do use a field guide to check my own observations, and would expect you to do the same.

What a nice idea! Your dandelion and buttercup haikus were very good, and this is a fitting continuation. Excellent job and good luck in your wildflower/haiku series!
