What a lovely thought, to steal a star from the night sky.
Your poem is lovely and reminds me of an old song by Perry Como, the first lines were
Catch a fallen star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
I will be singing that tune in my head all night now.

I adore
those little glow bugs
in the air,
so much that
I hand catch then quick release
just so they stay here!

SHADORMA FUN :>)

I like your sweet firefly poem, Brooke...smooth flow and charming thought make it a lovely read.

Brooke,

I enjoyed reading your shadorma about the firefly! I liked your rhymes within it and the idea of stealing a star, a wonder from the sky.

Very nicely imagined and written poem. In Japan Kyoto they celebrate the coming of the fireflies every year at a famous monastery. We went and there were loads of other people but hardly any fireflies. Its very sad but humans are destroying the natural world. I hope it will eventually fight back....beverly

Thank you, Beverly. I did not know that about Kyoto - thank you for sharing such a lovely celebration with me. Around here there are also far fewer fireflies than when I was a girl. Brooke

I started to send a review, but the computer crashed. Apologies if you get two.
You are really giving a masterclass in shadorma and what can be done with it. This is beautiful, and I love the crossover between reality and fantasy. Had you not given the poem a title, I could well have believed you had plucked a star from the sky and captured it in your jar.
I wonder if you have ever read any novels by Alice Hoffman? Her books usually have an element of magic, so skilfully woven into the tale that the reader stops questioning whether events are possible or not.
A delightful read. Best wishes to you.
Sally

Just so they're both good reviews, no apologies needed. LOL Lots of people STILL think I plucked a star from the sky. :-) Thank you for understanding - did she write Turtle Moon? I read that ages and ages ago. thanks so much, Sally : -) Brooke

I'm not sure about Turtle Moon. I'm so bad on titles. I race through books and forget them all too quickly. There was one with something green in the title, and another about two people, one with ice in their heart and the other with heat. This isn't much help is it!! I'll check on some titles from another site I belong to. There was a character called Turtle in a book by Barbara Kingsolver, but I forgot the name of that too. I better stop there... S

Alice Hoffman - Blue Diary, Seventh Heaven and Green Angel. Knew I had some titles somewhere!

Brooke, I love this one, but then I love them all. The sight of fireflys in the nighttime is a spectacular light show that is somehow magical.

Lola, we still have some, but when I was a kid in this same area, there would just be hundreds of them lighting up my lawn. Thanks so much. Brooke :-)

I like the structure.
I love the image, it is beautiful and perfect for this.
Good title.

I really like this syllabic form (probably because I occasionally write in Spanish.)

Do you know where I can find out more about it?

I love how the first four lines complement the last two. It's almost as if a child is (sadly) maturing.

Good use of rhyme.

Fine work.

I just googled "shadorma" and read what I could find. There is not a lot out there about it. Thanks so much, Alvin :-) Brooke

I once saw a firefly while I was traveling back east. I would love to have them where I live, would be fun to catch them with the grandkids. Great Job.

Hi Brooke,

So it was you that nicked the star from the Alpha Centauri constellation. The Celestial Police have been informed! Nice little shadorma there and a bit of fun too.
