Hooray--I guessed from the title it was going to be about callas. It was interesting to me that in your notes so many photographers were inspired by the lily (only O'Keefe, Stella and Rivera being painters). I think it must be the wonderful lines and contrasts that are so evident in black and white photography. Your poem speaks to these qualities so well. You paint exquisitely with your words and your eye frames the image beautifully simultaneously.

Mino Yasue is so gifted - I wonder how many FS poems have been accompanied by her work? Statuesque, yet maintains a palpable degree of velvety softness.
++ grows with grace, a work of art
Thanks for sharing.

How beautiful, Brooke. And once again, I'm grateful for the notes you've shared with us. This is very intriguing - that one woman would be so taken by the flower as to paint a whole exhibit's worth. Beautiful tanka, that truly brings out the beauty of the lily. Take care,
Heather

Heather, thank you. Her flower paintings are legenary - but this one in particular captivated her so much that she became known as the lady of the lilies :-) Brooke

This is a lovely poem celebrating the magnificent beauty of this unique bloom.
I sent a bouquet of calla lilies and red roses to a friend many years ago. She said it was the loveliest bouquet she had ever seen. (I had it delivered, so I didn't see it, but she sent me a photo.)
Beautiful artwork (as all of Mino's work is!)
Your poem has a gentle flow and airy presentation.
Very nice!

I'm imagining the bouquet and it sounds wildly beautiful to me! Thanks so much, Nic. Brooke

This is a perfectly executed tanka poem, Brooke. I especially like your last two lines -- that this beautiful flower was here long before Georgia O'Keefe. I have a copy of one of her renditions of it. Best of all, it was the flower I chose to carry in my wedding bouquet. This is a lovely poem about a lovely favorite of mine. Thanks for writing it. Lyla

Another lyrical flower - your book of them should be called 'Floral Tributes'. :) This is beautiful, certainly statuesque. I had them in my wedding bouquet actually, but I didn't know what they were called. :)

I love her paintings - if you ever have a mind to buy me one for many millions of dollars, I would be most appreciative :-) Thanks so much, my friend. Brooke

Next to the yellow rose, the call lily is my favorite flower and it is definitely a work of art. This is a lovely poem and I especially like the reference to O'Keefe. Great illustration for this poem too.

I'm giggling, Brooke...much to my hubby's chagrin...he can't figure out why I do what I do...(sigh). This, of course, was magnificent. And I agree that the artist, Mino Yasue, has done some remarkable work. Your poem is also a work of art.

Do you mean to tell me your husband is not as thrilled with my poetry as you are? LOL Thanks so much for your terrific review :-) Brooke

Some things always remain works
of art and thrive and grow more
beautiful as the test of time is
met.
Your words as magical as the Calla
Lilly, a painting of words that enhance
the beauty of this delicate flower.
Your writings and lessons of what you
write about, so interesting, so poetic,
and they, too, will withstand the test
of time.
Well done
