I really loved Gary Cooper. High Noon is one of my favorite movies. "The quiet man" always did the right thing, didn't he? So tall and upright. Great memories.
Great poetry for my tastes. Loved it.

Thank you - yes, it is one great movie, isn't it? Brooke

Well, you know I would love a poem on Gary Cooper. Great actor who played some great roles. I won't even bother to comment on the form. You know I think you're tops. I just got through communicating with a reviewer on grading. I got a four because my font was hard to read. I'm wondering what we're doing here. Rhymeman, the cowboy poet.

I have had people comment adversely on my choice of illustration as well as font and background color choices - I know, it's unbelievable, as if this is an interior decorating site. People come in all varieties, and some of those varieties are quite bizarre! LOL Thanks, Brooke :-)

Well, heck, if you can remember Gary Cooper's birthday, then you can remember mine. It's Valentine's Day.

This was fun to read and educational too I might add. Nicely written, great rhythm and your choice of colors in your presentation are soothing. Very well done. (gosh, just once I want to say you did a crappy job)...

Yeah, like I just remember celebrity birthdays. Google is my friend, and Wikipedia has great lists of birthdays, death anniversaries and historical events for each date. LOL But yes, I can remember Valentine's Day - and you can remember mine at least for this year - it is Sunday, Mother's Day! Thanks, Brooke :-) I will not pay attention to that comment about your wishing to spit on my crappiness! LOL

This year... Mother's Day?? Really??? Well, remember this... Mother is just half a word... ahahahahahaa...

Seriously, have a wonderful, wonderful birthday and you can write a poem about how it feels to be old. ROFLMAO.... just kidding. Have a great one, my friend. :)

I will be 58 on Sunday - since I turned 50 my daughter has reminded me each year how many years that is until I reach 60. LOL Dear Lord, we are down to two. And this year my son turns 30 - I am soon to be the mother of a 30 year old man. How can that be????? LOL
reply by Amfunny on 07-May-2009
I look a lot younger than I am. My son is older than yours. :(

Your picture sure doesn't make you look like a mom of someone over 30! Good for you. :-) I look like a mom. This Tuesday one of the men whom I serve at the shelter told me I'm like a second mom to him and the others, and a few others joined in by agreeing with him - the problem is that I think he and some of the others agreeing are older than I am. LOL I'm a mom to senior citizens. :-D

Well, close up I have some lines under my eyes. No wrinkles on forehead or crowsfeet yet. Most people take me to be 15 years younger than I am. I am enjoying it as much as I can. That pic was taken in 2008.

This was a perfectly penned ode to a great actor! The flow was flawless, the rhyme was on the dime and the presentation was inviting with the light soft green. This was a well done piece of poetic art!

This is a nice tribute to Gary Cooper. Cost and boast are near rhymes. It seemed a little out of place with the abab rhyming pattern. I would not presume to tell you anything about poetry. I think this was good, but I have read many others written by you that I liked better. - sam

Sam, that's OK - we all have favorites and not-so favorites :-) I love near rhyming and some don't. I've been reading entries in your Eduardo contest - some good ones - Roisin's is amazingly good. :-) Thanks, Brooke

I know. There are 2 or 3 that are better than the original. I laughed so hard at Lisa's my sides hurt. "get me a turd". LOL.

Hi Brooke,
I recall his name ... was he that old, born in 1901. Well he name certainly has lived on and that could only be due to his greatness. I enjoyed. Thanks for the footnotes, I would have been lost without them. As always, so well penned by an exceptional poet. Marion.

My parents were both born in 1909 - you make him sound like he's from the stone age. LOL Thank you, my young friend. :-) Brooke

LOL this is great! What a great tribute to Gary Cooper whom I also adore. I love what you say about being a hero. You are a hero to me. It takes tremendous courage to write the truth and do what you do outside of writing the truth as well. It sounds like you are a gorgeous flower blooming boldly against all odds.

I loved watching old Gary Cooper movies on TV as I grew up. He was an everyman's hero. Plus tall and yummy. I saw all those movies along with so many others. I even remember a silly little farce he did with a very young Audrey Hepburn. This was a delightful read.

Laurel, thank you so much!!! Yes, it is also on television that I saw all his performances. He always chose the best roles in the best films. Brooke

Brooke, I am amazed that day after day after day you can create such meaningful and delightful poetry. How do you do it? How many hours a day do you spend reviewing and creating. I am in awe of your passion for writing and your discipline in writing every day. That is what great writers do, and you are one of them.

Enjoyed this poem very much. If we could only be as good as Gary Cooper what a world this would be!

This is a nice homage to Gary Cooper, Brooke. He played many different kinds of roles, although he was known as a quiet and reticent man. Nice poem.
