A modern sonnet on life's twists and turns.74 total reviews

Rings nice and clear with a great message, would we really want to know which days are about to be good or bad. Life is truly an adventure, with its twists and turns unknown from moment to moment. I think that's nice. It also challenges us to do the right thing no matter what type of day we strike.
Love the hands, very nice, and the poem reads well aloud.

Hi Brooke,
This is a nicely crafted and beautifully presented sonnet. I agree, knowing what's to come may sound like a gift, but would it really make life better? Probably not. Better we just complain when things go wrong. LOL.

The hands sketch really tells us about life.
No-one can tell when one is to be born or die.
I really wouldn't want to know when I was to die.
I liked this read very much.

So many good questions asked in this poem. Also, I could hide, emerge, project, and engage were excellent word choices to your thoughts. I guess I agree, all in all, we don't really want to know. Where would the challenge be then? Great thought provoker. No changes to recommend and the form and flow worked very well. Very nicely done. Joyce

A scale functions on the premise that when the weight on either side is the same, it will balance. Life is like that. To reach that 'balance' in our lives, we need to have equal parts of joy and disappointment. If we knew everything in advance, who would ever choose disappointment? Life would be out of balance.
Nice work. No problems. You make me think.

Ha! Yes, there are guarantees in life! For instance,
these endangered salamander skins dipped in snail sauce,
washed down with a bottle of delicious pinot noir.
That's guaranteed! Unless, of course, I have a sudden
heart attack or stroke or someone detonates a dirty-
bomb within ten miles or so. Considering there's
scarcely a breeze today, my chances are greatly
improved with that latter possibility. Though, I should
pull out the ole cracked crystal ball and take a look,
just in case.
No problem! The screen lit up with one word: guaranteed!
For a moment there, you scared the shit out of me!
I mean, I thought I might not be in control of my own destiny. Please don't do that again, or I'll have to
contact the site administrator.
Yours, Fish

I get to line two and I start grinning - it must be Fish!!!
You honestly do just delight the hell out of me - I had better not sound too forward or you'll contact the site administrator to report I'm a stalker, and then I might come after you with a dirty bomb in the oversized bag I always carry, which nobody would suspect because it has blown up photos of my children when toddlers on it :-) I do love you, Fish. Peace, Brooke :-)

Brooke, This sonnet is written so well, I accepted it as an Shaksperian Sonnet. Fooled me, but not of the content. I really enjoyed the reasoning in this special sonnet. Bravo!

Great last line and a thoughtful look at the ebb and flow of life and how we react to it. I loved your choice of negative and positive words. They blended so well.

nothing is certain in this life, i do believe in fate though and i think when you say if only we could know what lies ahead you speak for all of us, i suppose there has to be some surprises left in life.
