A delightful free verse poem about a little boy playing soldier. (I remember back when little boys could play soldier) .

A fun read this afternoon.

Well done.
Blessings
Janet

This is a delightful poem. I enjoyed the meandering yet strategic journey of the
young "soldier" wending his way to . . . supper. I'm glad I read your note.
Otherwise, I would have been sending a message about the correct term
"derring-do"! LOL!

Hello Michael,

That picture is adorable :) I can picture the young army soldier acting out his war stories in his neighborhood park. You captivated me from beginning to end. That is saying quite a lot since I profess to not being a free verser. I'm helpless without structure. That's a story for another day lol! This should have been in a contest. it leaves itself open for a Poem of the Month nomination. Yep, uhuh, I think so.

I was going to mention the "daring" but apparently you have had it mentioned already. I really like the poem. It has a lot of movement. Excellent imagery. I thought the Ford Gremlin reference was excellent. I can see the old car in my mind's eye looking like a vehicle that had been in a war. In my memory, most of them did and not just the discarded ones. I played these war games myself. Well done. Cowboy

Hi Michael--
Without knowing the "plot" of your book this does not quite add up, make sense. I like it though, the mixture of real and unreal, or of realms of reality. If I see more I'll take a look.

Thanks
Wabigoon/Jeff

What a treat. I have sons. I remember their tales of derring-do from when they were growing up. The poet has done us an unbelievable favor writing of one small boy's trip home from wherever he had been and all of the adventures he had along the way. Good job.

This is an imaginative free verse poem about a child's imagination on the way home. Everything is so true to life to this young boy pretending to be a soldier.

Keep writing

I like this. I think it's cute. I can see the little boy playing soldier. I can also see the grown man coming home and reminiscing about playing soldier as a boy. Well done. Keep writing.

A very well-written free verse poem. It took me back many years when my cousins and I were -playing cowboys and crooks, when we grew up later the boys went to the army now our children are playing soldiers.
