This is a highly effective poem. The language used is very evocative and the reader is able to clearly visualise the situation. The third line provides an excellent contrast with the first two Good luck for the contest.

A worthy Haiku poem contest entry. Your words convey well the vivid scene your illustration depicts. That this is a concern every summer, is awful to contemplate.

Good luck in the voting!

Well said. This is definitely the time. In Canada, we had a horrific one in Alberta, it was on the news worldwide, I believe. People left their homes with just the clothes on their backs and it was basically a one way out of town, and not to look back.
Several different churches and organizations have been providing donations, people were so welcoming offering their homes to so many. The love that was extended has been incredible.
Thanks for the reminder, Ulla, of how dangerous fire really is.
Well done...Joan

Hi Joan, thanks so much. It's a real threat here. We live in the mountans and we always have this fear from now until November. All the best. Ulla:)))

Unfortunately this is what we can look forward to all summer long, Ulla. I feel for anything living within its path once a fire is under way. Your satori for this haiku is a good one and I wish you good luck in the contest for sure.

Hi Ulla, this is a very pertinent subject during your hot summer. The first line of a haiku is also the title, so your title should be, 'Haiku, flame soars spreading fast' and they do devour all, but 'without a thought' is a personification, which I don't THINK is allowed. I did four courses in haiku before I 'got' it. Then Alvin, (our teacher at the time) said you have to capture a moment in time, and I finally got it. But I don't write them much now, and things are always changing. Great to see you doing all these different things with your writing. Giddy

Great satori!

Summer does indeed spark more and more rampant fires (especially in the west, though the east is beginning to see record numbers and sizes as well)

And your description is exactly what terrifies us -
flame soars
spreading fast
devours all without
a thought

Nicely done :-)

I love the picture... Compliments a beautiful, vivid poem.
That's looks like California, where I live.
I like the ending that explains the soaring flames : "Summer has arrived."
I love how you personalized the drought devouring everything in sight "without a thought."
Great job. Thank you for sharing. And good luck.

Thank you so much Gabriela, very much appreciated. You know, my first ever doll and so much loved was bought to me when we viseted in Venice, Italy, back in in the sixties. There my parents befriended this italian couple, one of whose daughter's name was Gabriela. She was lovely, and I named my doll Gabriela after her. I treasured that doll until it fell apart. Never met anyone since with that name until now. Sorry, had to tell you my story. All the best. Ulla:)))

This poem captures the threat of the hot summer days and dry tinder waiting to be ignited. The pic sells it even more with its scary hellfire eating the horizon and moving in. Nice.
