Greetings adewpearl,

Beautiful poem posted on the anniversary of a tragic day in our history. I like the way you make Autumn seem alive with human characteristics. Pleased to give this one a six. All my best to FanStory's #1 poet. ;) Chrisfiore

Hi Brooke,

Your poem is beautiful and written well, like all of your work. I always enjoy reading your poetry. I wish I could write poems like you. No wonder you're in the first spot rankings.

S very beautiful, my friend. I love this modified pantoum which reminds if we look, there is beauty in each and every day and that just waking up is a blessing. Have a great Saturday, my friend~Debbie

I love Autumn and you have done an exceptional job of describing her in all her glory. It is always sad when, as you so poetically state that nobody dares defy time and autumn must shed her colorful robes to become bare and brown.
Such amazing imagery in this poem of praise for fall. Blessings, Linda

Hello Friend I so wish I had a six left. This poem is just so well crafted. I love the second line becoming the first. It revolves like life and death and circles like the seasons. It pauses in glory before the chill comes.

A beautiful pantoum, Brooke, about one of my favorite seasons - autumn. Well executed and perfectly structured form, great meter and rhythm.

Loved those lines:

Before her garb turns brown and bare,
for one brief spell she stops death's clock
to place a garland in her hair
until she's donned her widow's frock.

Excellent use of metaphors.

Yes, that was a truly sad day, September 11th, but God at least blessed us with good weather this day. Thank you for writing this, and on September 11th too.

On the aside note, I think, light blue background would bring out the presentation. Brown is a bit dark - but then, I don't know - maybe you wanted to bring out autumnal colors.

So true, Brooke. Autumn is beautiful for brief periods, but it's what follows her that colors our perception. Sigh! And now, after 9/11, September reminds us all of that day - where we were when we heard - who we turned to, how we waited for the next event. A day no one will ever forget.

But until that moment, "there is that spell that steals our breath when she wears garlands in her hair." Until that moment, it was such a glorious September day. Well done, Brooke!

Thank you so much, Adrienne - yep, fall is lovely for part of the season, and then come all those brittle brown leaves coating everything like a crunchy mud puddle. LOL :-) Brooke

This is very true. Autumn is a kind of death where the leaves of trees wilt and fall. But it is a death that brings forth a new cycle of life and color in spring when the cloak is donned in season's transformation. Well done.

This is a beautiful poem. I love the way you have connected the quiet beauty of autumn with the sudden violent appearance of death. Indeed no one stops time's demands.

What an amazing Modified Pantoum poem.
Autumn is like a double edged sword. One image is of colour and beauty and the other is barren and bare.
You have captured this comparison exactly in this poem.
I like the chosen word imagery and how the references to time seem to signal the march of the season through all its phases.
