What a lovely glimpse into childhood wonder. You did a beautiful job, lines loaded with vivid imagery, good rythmn and flow, good natural rhyme. A very enjoyable read. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent.

Such a delightful poem adewpearl. It brings back wonderful memories of my childhood home and especially the yard. Oh yes, we put maple seed pods on our noses and blew the seeds of dandelions. It has been way too long since I have done that.
We (my siblings and I) also searched for four-leaf clovers.
I especially love the last four lines:
I am not heir to family fortune -
no treasure have I under lock and key.
But clovers are still there for seeking,
and maples, from seeds, grow in majesty.

Bringing back childhood memories is delightful. I think you have done a wonderful job in doing just that. I need to tell you I find a real disconnect to the picture, I find it very real and disturbing...

oh, I don't like the darn picture either - I just couldn't find something better and I searched - sorry about that! thanks for the kind review of the poem!
-
I am laughing....I am so glad you did not like it either...that makes it worth keeping it posted....good work.
-
sure, you laugh - you aren't the one who was searching for four leaf clovers and robins' eggs and pink quartz for a half hour!!! LOL

Yes, the helicopter seeds!
This was a softly chanted poem. It worked very well to stir the old memories.
I only feel one line is not right; far more than first seems on a giant tree grows
still I'm giving you a full five.

thank you very much for your generous review and for sharing your memories - a couple people have had a problem with that line so I will look it over to see if something can be done :-)

maybe
far more seeds than you'd believe on this old tree grows

well you may not be an heir to a family fortune but you are leaving a treasury for your children, I wish you would write about polar bears sometime, I love them so, and you would bring them to life so beautifully like you do every thing else you write about.

Oh, I love polar bears too - the ones at the Philly Zoo have always entranced me as do the ones at Central Park Zoo in NYC - I will have to put my thinking cap on about them! :-) Thank you so much for this most warm and lovely review :-)

See I knew it, you could use your magic, and write something about the magic white bears, that could make people laugh and cry,,,,and not want to drill in their only home, no one could do it better than you

This brought back memories. I often used to look for and find four leaf clovers myself. Once, I remember finding a tree filled with rich topsoil and my brother and I filled trashbags and sold it to neighbors. I loved your description of the nest. Terror

As a matter of fact it was just a week ago when I blew a dandelion and made a wish. I taught my younger boyz about that. I think the park now needs to grow more, lol. Very nice poem, Dogz.

Sounds like a reat treat to be able to go and find secret treasures in your backyard. I don't think I've ever done this as a child....Maybe I should have

Oh the simplest things were so special when we were children ... before computers, the internet, video games, etc. I remember all that you mentioned plus catching frogs and fireflies! Lovely piece

catching fireflies is the subject of an earlier posting called summer skies :-) I didn't catch frogs but got some horny toads from boy scouts from Texas when the Boy scout jamboree was held at nearby Valley Forge Park. :-) Thanks for sharing your memories and for this warm review :-)

Hello adewpearl Precious now you give a wonderful example with your rhyming poem-
of the simple pleasure a child can find in their own back yard.
Loved the part about finding the robin eggs
Thank you for reminding me of the pleasure one can find right in their backyard or even a stroll though the woods
thank you for sharing.

my yard had quite a few trees, and robins abound in PA, so every year I found several robin's eggs on the ground - the most beautiful shade of blue :-) thanks for this kind and generous review!

You are so welcome
