thanks, Gayle. I don't know if they are or not, but I always pray I do no harm, hence the title of the poem. I remain very concerned for a couple of people I work with on a regular basis. love, jan

What a sad poem of someone who is dying and giving up. It flows well and was easy to read and understand. Good luck in the contest. Thanks, Jeanette

Oh, my goodness, Jan.
Isn't it horrific what drives people to want to do this to themselves? It is such a gutless way to go, in my opinion. The devestation it leaves in the community, especially with the family members who have to live and grieve for the rest of their lives.
I do say one thing, though: I'm glad I'm not a kid raised in this world today. All the garbage that goes on every day ... the stimulation, the exposure through the media ... really sad.
I remember my mom asking years ago: How much worse can things get'?

The skies the limit, it seems.
Sorry for my ranting.
Always a pleasure to read soemthing of yours.
Hugs,
David xx

thanks, David. If I had the opportunity to be a kid again even knowing all I know now, I would say, "No, thanks, I'll pass." love, jan

Does being called selfish really motivate someone to not take his or her life? I think it feels selfish to us but in the minds of those who are severely depressed, they come to believe it will be better for the rest of us if they are gone.

Good poem and met the rules.

Kit, I don't think calling it selfish will prevent it but one would hope it would make them think about how far-reaching their actions are. love, jan

I guess when I have heard someone use selfish when talking to someone who is threatening suicide, that person shut down to the message. Another just felt guiltier or more worthless and the depression deepened. But we all have our own experiences with suicides. Each time has so much in common with the rest and yet is so personal and unique. It's a tough subject to write about. You have done it well, imho.

Composed in decent rhyme with a good flow, this poem is a nicely worded plea and admonishment for those thinking suicide is the final solution. I liked the line:

"Think about the real cost

Your selfish act will compile"

For, suicide is a selffish act indeed, no mattter how we try to make it seem otherwise. Well done with no spags.

I believe that I commented before and there is nothing like having to give a person, the time and the room to consider suicide. Then sometimes complete strangers with certain questions indicate that they too are considering it. I sort of take a zen like approach and don't condemn the act or the person thinking about it, but simplily present it as a choice. I explain that I do not personally believe that God will badly judge for the decision, but he will judge on the effect your act has one other's that you ran across. I also suggest they maybe if they include other people in their lives and live for them, their life will have more value. It has been so with me.

I found this to be well written and making good use of the required words. I also like your notes, but my observation is that most people closer to them don't necessarily see things for what it is and don't know how to handle a problem such as a person's desire and tend to make it worse at a bad time. It is life's experiences that give one the words to say and the attitude to have to be of help.

you are so right, Mike K2. As I've told families of people who have committed suicide, only that person can make the final decision. As a rule, the person is not in sound mind at the time of the final act which is what makes it so sad--it is a permanent solution to what is normally a short-term problem.

A great message for those who feel desperate. Suicide is a dreadful way to end a life as too many people are left behind to suffer. If we talked about it more maybe more people would get help. Here is hoping someone out there reads your poem and sees the light in time.
Great writing. Good luck in the competition.

I think this is a wonderful entry and even more contains a very valuable message for those who are tortured by thoughts of death or other mind invasive issues. Really great doll ... best of luck to you at voting time. XO

Love your poem and author's note. Suicide is never the answer. And we can not judge as we do not know if the victim was within his/her right mind or not when it happened--only God knows. A great poem and hopefully, it might convince somebody to reach out for help before actually doing the deed if they read this. A great write. Wish you the best in the contest.
