I must say I don't care much for flies. Whatever good they may do they also land on faeces and eat from it only to land on my food. No thank you. They are not something I care about much. I loved you well written poem though, and I would have done exactly what you did. Ulla:)))

How do you write a poem about a fly and make it so damn good?! I was considering a story about escarole this morning as I was buying it at the vegetable stand, but, no I thought, how can one make that interesting? You've caused me to reconsider:-)

One question - you hit him with your computer mouse? Just wondering, as I assume you didn't hit him with the rodent, lol!

Great presentation and the rhyme and reason (for your murderous ways) are fantastic!

Thank you so much, Pam for this second Christmas treat! I'm delighted by your lovely comments and think you should definitely do a write about escarole because I, for one, don't have a clue what that is:)) Actually I've just looked it up now but, if it inspires, do it. If anyone can, you can. Thanks so much again. Debbie xo

Sorry, but even though every creature has a right to life, no creature has the right to torture me in the way a buzzing fly can. So, with that having been said, I will terminate any fly that bothers me, without the slightest bit of concern. Again, with all due respect to your compassion, I do not care one whit about the life of a fly.

Thank you so much, Nomi, for your thoughtful review! Just a different perspective here on a lone fly but I would definitely have resorted to even greater measures had there been a swarm! Take care and enjoy the rest of the holidays. Debbie

I had no idea that flies did so much. Don't get me wrong, they are still annoying but l can see why you might have regrets. This is an interesting poem.

Good for you for sticking up for the housefly in our midst. We often swat them away instead of welcoming their beings when all they do is annoy us when they fly too close.
Thanks for sticking up for the housefly!
We need to consider how they function to better dispose of waste and fecal matter that we do not want to dispose of ourselves.

Thank you so much, Jesse, for your kind and thoughtful review. A bit of conscience here, I think, on my part because I could just as easily have put him out of the window! Take care Debbie

Is there no end to your writing talent, my dear?
Recently posted poems on Taylor, Streisand, Nelson, Diamond and Bing Crosby you let a housefly irk your ire? I love it!

I hate those pesky flies when they venture inside. They've met there doom. I pretty accurate with the swatter.

Anyway, you have more writing talent in your pinky then I have in my six foot frame (used to be six-one, but age crept in).

Keep writing and I'll keep reading!

Cheers,
John

Thank you so much, John, for this wonderful review and support! I know, I hate them too and he was sooo noisy. But he was quite a fine specimen and did look very sorry for himself by the time my deed was done! Happy cooking! Debbie

Okay, now Deb, you know I adore you like crazy and hold your writing talents in the highest esteem...but, really, you regret killing one fly? Trust me when I tell you, sweet friend o' mine, that there are legions, LEGIONS more where that one came from.

I do appreciate your Author's Notes about how they disseminate roadkill and feed the many other species in our food chain...but in order to do that, they have to be OUTSIDE our houses. Once they're inside, they're fair freakin game. If you want to want to draw a violence analogy, think of the Israel: if you want to not suffer their wrath, don't come into their borders with ill intent. (because, I'm quite sure your fly was not bearing gifts for you...unless you want to count carrion germs on his little fly feet "a gift.")

So, although your meter and rhyme were perfect, I have to say I'm worried about you over the content. Count this be fallout from your accident yesterday, perhaps?

Oh I'm sorry and, yes, you're probably right especially as I'm now sporting a black eye and looking extremely attractive, while my head is not quite in the zone! But this happened a few days ago and, while I thought flies were fair game, I had second thoughts when I saw him lying there, all broken and squishy! But I've since discovered they're prolific pooers (something that L'il Swish will be known for since her unblocking:)) Thanks for the review though. I feel aptly put in my place:)) Debxos

Oh, good, you've returned from the abyss. I'm feeling better.

I wanted to share this vignette from years and years ago when I went to a piano family's house for lessons. The mom was holding a can of insect repellent in her hand and had a sharp, fixed look as she eyed the floor. I approached with a quizzical look on my face. She looked up, smiled wickedly and said, "I love to watch them suffer." I looked at the floor and saw a bee doing spastic, frantic backstroke in increasingly smaller circles in a puddle of Raid. Quite the chilling moment for me in so very many ways!! (This mom had always seemed so LOVELY before!!)

I'm sure everything on earth has a reason for being. I don't like to kill anything either. I let spiders buitl webs in my house rather than destory them but if I see a roach running across my floor, I will stomp it if I can. They can created a million more fairly quickly. My kids go to great links to capture insects and take thim outside.

Thank you so much, Beth, for your kind and thoughtful review. Yes, I usually save insects from this kind of fate but was so incensed by this one... And I'm not proud! Take care Debbie

Get you, Debbie the naturalist and protector of species. I have no sixes left but do still love this almost metaphysical concern for an insect. Reminiscent of the seventeenth century, fly hovering round a glass of sack type of thing. Brilliant rhyme, rhythm and sentiment. Well done.

Thank you so much, John for this lovely, thoughtful review! I was mad at the time but then felt very ashamed because he deserved a break for freedom. Trouble is they don't go do they? Just love to be around people and animals! Take care Debbie. PS I'm a bit slow today. Had a fall yesterday and am now sporting a black eye and swollen nose - very pretty for the season!

I really don't get it how flies choose to stick around inside the home where there's always danger, especially when all the windows are open and there's fresh air outside. They're not very nice creatures, but I still don't like to kill them. A well written piece, Debbie.
