Nice poem, great statements and a good rhythm. However, throughout reading it, I felt like the rhythm of the poem would flow smoother if the contractions were not used e.g. from "but I'm afraid without them we'd die." to "but I am afraid without them we would die."

Thank you for the review and comments. I had noticed on that line I was a syllable short and I'd changed it to read: However, without them we'd likely die. I like contractons because it sounds more natural the way we normally talk.
