This poem is short, but it has a lot of weight to them. In three lines, the story about the death of someone's uncle and how they died came shining through, with all the emotion to go with it. Good work.

In my opinion, a starkly realistic acceptance of what appeared to be inevitable, succinctly and soberly expressed - well constructed and perfectly presented with the perfect picture complement...

Yes, evesayshi, this is a starkly realistic acceptance of the inevitable. There is no sugarcoating this. Thank you for your review.

It is nearly impossible to say much about something so very (intentionally) brief but this one hits the bulls eye dead on! It is packaged perfectly in photography and font and the message is spot on perfect! I loved it! HIS GRAYNESS

First of all, What a cool picture! The two of you seem to have similar styles, and you can see the affection you have for him in your smile.

The prescience of people who know they are going to die is fascinating. Even to an outsider, the seemingly trivial admonition not to bring more teacakes seems to be laden with meaning. At any rate, it is a great line around which to frame this poem. Love it.

Yes, Mark, many reviewers have remarked about the prescience of people who know they are going to die. I remember when my mother wrote in the postscript of a letter her love for a particular florist I should use. That made no sense that she would write that. A week later she died and I bought the flowers at the florist she mentioned in her letter.

    Thank you for your review.

Thank you, Gypsy, for your review, condolences, and wishing me luck in the contest. I just remembered that I have an audio recording of my uncle telling family history, and I have notes from other visits. Don't be surprised if he reappears in future stories.

Awesome !!! I too had an uncle I was very close to. He just wanted us to play his Thelonius Monk albums. Thanks for the memory.

I am sorry you lost your uncle, but I appreciate your memorializing him in this 3-line poem. I admired your 5-7-5 form and did not anticipate the final line. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

Thank you, Joan, for your review, condolences, and contest best wishes. I saw it as significant when my uncle declined my teacakes after months of me baking them for him. Five days after my visit without teacakes he died. Thanks again for your thoughts.

Aw, nice picture of you and your uncle. Sad poem though. I guess he knew he was going to die. I think often older people do. I'm sorry for your loss.

Good luck in the contest.

Oh, very creative and yet sad, with a bit of humorous satire...it all being true as indicated in your notes and a nice photo to cherish of your Uncle spending a pleasant visit with him at probably one of his favorite' restaurants though, too, then realizing his love for teacakes diminished and you just knew, as maybe his health was also in decline then with his last words to you....Making though with all this...your poem come to life.

Thanks for sharing & Best Wishes for your entry....C.

Thank you, Caressa, for your review, heartfelt condolences, and wishing me the best in the contest. About a dozen reviewers have reported to me that they witnessed their dying loved once decline favorite foods hours or days before passing.
