Oh the poor things...I remember leaving our dog at a boarding place when I was little, and the look on her face was so awful. I'll never forget that. Now that I'm an adult, I usually have someone house sit when we go out of town and have to leave the babies behind. My three dogs are rescues, so I don't want them to think they're back at the pound again, poor lambs.
I think you did really well here, describing the emotions and distress of the boys - especially Howie. Also, recognizing some words, of course they do.

What a delightful story told from Howie's point of view. You've captured the excitement our beloved pets show when we've been away for an extended period of time. I imagine that those thoughts are echoed by my poodle, Lily, each time we go away, even though she's always left with family members that love her, too.

Oh how sweet. I could feel Howie's pain at being jailed for the weekend. Lol. They are such sweet boys, and love their mistress so much.

This is wonderfully written from the perspective of a dog. I first thought it wasn't going to end happily...so many don't. I often wonder what our pets think when we leave, even for a day. Someone once told me they think each time we leave, we are never coming back. They is a horrifying thought, if true.
