This time of year is always sad because it signals the end of summer, flowers, green and light and heralds the beginning of winter, cold, drab, dark and difficult. Well written

I thought this was just perfect. Of course, the rhyme and meter are perfect. The description of autumn was so evocative as well - and the fact that the poem was written on September 11 - well, there's nothing more that can be said. Perfect. It has caught the way I think we all feel about autumn - we admire its beauty and feel the harbinger of the winter ahead, even as we admire its glory. Wonderful poem, I think.

Ah, yes, one of my two favorite seasons is Fall. Spring is the other. Transitional seasons for birth and death.
Your poem does its usual enviable job with the pomp before the circumstance.
Great job, Brooke.

Hello Brooke,
I enjoyed this piece in remembrance of that fateful day. I also related to the thought of that peace, that the day promised, before the tragedy.
My wife and I were at our mining claim, enjoying a breakfast by the river with the trees in full "bloom", when a friend ran down and said we needed to get to "The Outpost", our local restaurant/bar/grocery store, and only TV for miles, to see what was happening. We watched the events unfolding in silent shock...it was surreal.
On the other hand, I also appreciate the intent of this wonderful, seasonal poem. I've always thought of fall as a the sunset of summer. There's one last blast of beauty before the inevitable nightfall of winter.
Smooth enjambments made for an enjoyable read.
Best wishes, Bill

Stunning photo equaled by your words carrying the bitter/sweet sense of the ending of summer and the brilliance of the transitional period known as Fall.

I remember exactly where I was sitting and what I was doing. I was writing and we lived in Elgin, SC. I had the radio on when the first airplane hit the Twin Towers. I called my husband at work. They, at his Army office, knew nothing about it. I told him to turn on the news. He did as they second plane flew into it. I could hear the men's comments.

What a lovely descriptive poem Brooke. The lines paint such a vivid picture, far away here in India, I could envisage what a beautiful morning it would have been. Loved the read :)
