I once heard a an old saw that said, "for every birth, there is a death." I thought it rather morbid - but as I have grown (or perhaps matured) I believe the saw should say, "For every death, there is a birth" Life does renew, and your poem offers comfort in many ways. Life will go on after we have passed from this plane of existence. I look into my family album, at pictures now well over 100 years old. All the beautiful people there, now long since passed on. Some I never met, yet I know them very well. Many lived full and rich lives, had their children and grew old and died. It is the way of life. Your rispetto speaks so well to life here in the present, and the beautiful cycle in which we live. If we have children, then we are part of the cycle and can understand it a little better than does who do not. There is an ache in the soul of those who know that their essence dies with them.

You write about the circle of life and death so tenderly and beautifully. It makes everything seem okay. You are so right, life is a cycle. There is always something good happening at the same time something bad happens. . .I love this rispetto-a beautiful form and perfect for this poem. The flow and ryhme are elegantly written. Thanks for sharing, Dana

Wonderful, my friend. I like the way you use contrast in
this poem. I guess we all owe and will play our parts in life--good and bad, life and death. Well done.

Amen, but how painful and difficult it is at times to endure the pain of it's turning. This is a beautiful expression of the cycle of life Brooke. Blessings. Barbara

Thank you so much, Barbara. Yes, the loss is always painful, and I know how long that pain can last no matter how philosophical we are about it. I truly appreciate your kind thoughts. Brooke

Brooke,

Yesterday afternoon, my children's grandmother (my ex-motherinlaw) died after falling and hitting her head. Strange, but the medicine (Plavix) given her to help her heart, caused her to hemorrhage in her brain. I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to share your poem with them and Chuck...My son commented on how much death we've had in our family, but we've also shared happy births and happy times like you wrote in your notes.

Sometimes we need gentle reminders like this beautiful poem of yours...Thank you.

Smiles, Carol

And the cycle goes by quickly. True what they say, the older you get, the faster time flies. I am so thrilled there is a paradise with God. Lovely flow and rhyme. Love, Jean

Hi, Brooke, it must have been hard for you as a child losing your Mom. I lost my father at an early age and shortly after my sister gave birth to a lovely baby girl. Such is the circle of life. My Mom always used o say...'Hear of a death then hear of a birth.

Your well written poem certainly gives us something to think about.

Well written with good imagery, flow and rhyme.

Best wishes,
Malcolm

The more we read, the more tidbits we learn. Does anyone else in yourr family write poetry?
Life continues on, hopefully the weak become strong.

I take it the rhyme scheme is preset and has to be followed?

Well done as usual, Buck

Thank you, Buck. My daughter used to write poetry when she was much younger but I have not been able to convince her to write lately. Brooke :-)

I know the feeling. My oldest can write as well, but doesn't believe she has the time to do it right now.

Hi Brooke,
This is a beautifully written rispetto acknowledging the cycles of life and death. I like thinking about the cycles and our perspectives and vantage points as we go round and round and round in the circle game. I've been to too many funerals this past year of friends and family that have shuffled off this mortal coil. The birds outside flocking to our bird feeders are so similar to their relatives that have visited us throughout the decades. There's a delicate balancce in the requirements for life that endures in a timeless way. Life goes on. Everyone alive today will pass away, but hundreds of years from now there will still be life similar to how we perceive it today. There is mystery and wonder at how all this happens.

Enjoyed your rispetto done with perfect rhyme and meter.
Thanks for the notes that give a depth of background behind the poem. This is has been an extremely harsh winter, weatherwise, but soon all those feet of snow will melt and flowers will start to bloom... spring will burst anew, reaffirming that aspect of the life cycle.

Outstanding poem.
Well done,
Be well,
Art
