Who would think, a bat and ball
could make one smile, make one bawl
Yet though your world seems upside down
Another great season will be coming around.
Never mind Brooke this step ladder may lift
your spirits...

This was so very gracious of you to write an unheartfelt ode to the Yankees:) At least you are a woman of your word!!! Very humorous. I'm sure Amicus is posting it.
I won't say nice poem and rub it in:) Jean

I don't much about your teams out there or if this poem refers to soccer or baseball (have just seen picture so it must be baseball) , I gather that you are all quite passionate about your sport.
It will probably make more sense to your fellow countrymen than me however it was a good poem, it all rhymed well and you really were a good sport to cheer the other team

Thank you, Debbie : -) My city, Philadelphia, is particularly passionate about our sports, yes. I'm glad you enjoyed even if baseball is not part of your culture :-) Brooke

I felt your sorrow in this one Brooke. I really did ring of something akin to sour cherries. Smile. It is cute and
funny. You have managed to make something that is supposed to be an unhappy win sound good. Some great gift you have. Great flow, pace and rhythm. Blessings. Queenise

Liked your charming little ditty.
And, it proves my point...poetry is for everyone...including sports fans.
For me, it was like a news bulletin...had no idea the series was playing...let alone...who won.
Thanks for the news flash.
Well done!

I also believe poetry suits all occasions and can be enjoyed by all people, not only folks with stuffy degrees in esoteric fields who read the New Yorker!! LOL Thanks so much, Brooke

I am so glad you said this. One of my goals is to bring poetry back into the common parlance. There was a time when everyone read poetry...I have been thinking up ways to bring it back . I am working on some ideas...will share them with you when they are more fully formed.
Poetry for everyone...YES!
-
My dad used to learn long poems by heart when in grade school - poems like Little Orphant Annie that everyone loved - and they were still great poems. I think today the New Yorker crowd thinks if it is accessible, it has to be "bad." Low brow. I truly believe poetry can be well written and still understood by the folks at church and in the neighborhood. I think about this a lot. I'm so glad you do too!!!

I do. I have never been a literary elitist. My professors used to drive me crazy with how they taught Shakespeare...he was such a bard of the people. Old Will new human beings and his work was/is so accessible....
I have never found "profound" meaning in inaccessible ...I have just found it...inaccessible.
Yes, let's lead the movement to return to poetry for everyman.
-
and so many people buy into it - I have read poems on this site that defy explanation - I would PAY anyone who could make the correct guess as to what they are about - and reviewers will say - I don't know what this is about but it must be profound and you must just be smarter than I am since I can't figure it out - have a six! LOL

There is no doubt that the "sincerity" shines through in this masterly wok of evasive congratulations. Naturally, the winner of the bet will applaud your faultless technique.

I'm sorry that your team lost, Brooke, but I was happy to see the Yankees win. We watched many of them play here in Columbus when our Clippers were the Yankees triple A team. So we had a good rapport with the likes of Andy Pettitte and Derek Jeter. I like your funny ode.

HA HA I love this poem. I never would have thought about writing a poem about baseball of all things but it's just totally wonderful. I have no suggestions of course!!

Skye, I will not hold that you are a Yankee fan against you since you have so many other redeeming qualities. LOL Thanks, Brooke :-)
