"What lovely memories you brought back Apelle! I am from the era of the mailman coming twice a day to our house when I was a child. If my mum wanted a chat with her neighbour she went out to our letter box(very few mothers went out to work in those days) at the appointed time (posties always came the same time every day) and "did the yak". I used to love waiting for the postie on my birthday or at Christmas, looking forward to him wishing me a happy birthday or merry christmas. When I was older I organised, single handedly, a reunion for my high school and would run out to meet the postie every day. We'd always have a chat and he was just as excited as I was when each new bundle of requests for tickets arrived. (Over a 1000 people attend the function).

I think the internet and the modern way of communicating has robbed us of a very valuable tool for social interaction and your story has highlighted that perfectly. Well done, regards, Jan

In a perfect world, there would be room for all. Sadly, in today's time, there doesn't seem to be enough room for anyone. Nicely written.

An excellent mood piece that over-analysis would wreck.

I got a bit bogged down in the middle, but you pulled it out. I get a sense of the last verse of "American Pie":

I might suggest a comma in the last line

But good satire is difficult to write, and you did OK here.

Very well done. I was distracted by "cables". Does anyone send a cable anymore? Otherwise an enjoyable enough read. I like the twist where the email got deleted. I liked this line too.
"Wireless phone chatter exacerbated the disturbance."

Alas, for every letter that is longer sent, it's replaced by a handful of junk mail. And that's the postal service's fault for giving it the junk mail discount while charging us more to go first class. And we still get our mail mixed up with some house two blocks away.
The problem with this technology (cells, internet, etc) is that the closer together it brings the world, the farther apart we become.
One suggestion:
tipped a buck or two for 'a beer[.]' Commas and periods always go inside.

I love it! The last line makes the whole story even better. It's a true sign of the times. We enjoy our convenience, but we've sacraficed for it.

Excellent read. Thanks for writing this. I have thought about this too in terms of purchasing fewer postage stamps due to email and electronic bill pay. As for our mailpeople, they deliver mail by mail trucks. I think, however, that the postal service will not go completely away due to packages. No one has mastered emailing gifts yet.

I enjoyed reading your short story this morning. We don't think about the human contact the old fashioned mailman provides. I liked your mailman character. He had the right idea about news delivery. You should read Stephen King's novel called Cell. It is funny and scary like your tale.

Very clever short story! I like the way it ended, which is probably the only way it can, considering the modern times we live in.

The only thing I noticed was that you might want to put a comma after the last sentence, "Word has it," -- I had to read that sentence a couple of times to get it.

Very well done!
