Great haiku. Short and simple in structure. Well done Brooke. Author's notes were thorough - thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous artwork.

A wonderful haiku projecting excellent imagery of the poppy and the great symbolism to pay tribute to our fallen heroes. Thank you too for your Author Notes. Mary

This haiku is of coures excellent. It made me think of the book "where the red fern grows". I think the principle is the same. Great imagery. As always your notes really add to the haiku. Well done- Sam

Hell's frozen over
Brooke's flowing with floral 'ku
wild flower moments

Powerful remembrance poem with wonderful o sounds and effective alliteration with the f's and b's...I can see the poppies in your words and rhythmic memories of McCrae's poem are summoned by your satori. I found my mind simply and naturally moving right into a recitation of "In Flanders Fields" after reading this.

Nice use of "florid" in line 1.

Thank you for noticing florid - only a few people have, and I was so pleased with myself for that one! LOL Do you ever write something and just feel a bit smugly pleased with yourself??? I sure hope so. I don't want to be the only one. :-) I just laughed myself silly over the ending of a gallows humor flash fiction story and found out from the author and then other reviews that I was in a tiny minority of people who had reacted that way - some readers were actually quite pissed at her callousness. I'm wondering if I'm just a tad different. LOL Thanks so much for this wonderfully warm response. Brooke :-)

Don't tell anybody but truth is I never post a poem I don't feel a liitle smugness about....when I don't have that little "look at me and what I've just done" lack of humility, I just keep working until I feel like the piece is worth strutting about at least a little bit....So, you are not alone...there is at least one other ego maniac out here! :>) However, looking at the post after the glow wears off is sometimes a lesson in humility...and so that goes and goes etc.

Hullo Adewpearl ....

What you have written in your Haiku presentation, together with your interesting and informative Notes at the end, make for thought-provoking reading. We are privileged, indeed, when we come across poems written by those in the Armed Forces during any one of the many Wars
in recent history. I once read the words of a Japanese Kamakazi Pilot written before he set off on his last fatal mission. His poem was not about war or death or enemies but about the beauty of the cherry blossom which, when the petals fall, he compared with the young lives being given up for their country.
Thank you for sharing these thoughts with us.

It is also a nod to the greatness of soldiers (ours and others) who fought and died for our freedoms, and the freedom of others.

GREAT story about the poppies with a nice complimentary picture and good use of color. What are you up to now? Is it five? Good analogy of the red poppies with blood and nice story of how they are used for memorials. Sue

Yes, it is five - I spent much of the morning helping my sister with MS do her chores, then I took a nap. Now I am 75 reviews behind in my replies :-) Hope you're having a good day, Sue :-) Thanks, Brooke

'florid poppies bloom' is a beautifully written tribute to those who shed their blood so that we could be both safe and free. It was a privilege to read and review a poem of this quality.
