A very interesting poem. I'm not sure I quite understand it, but it's still very good. Since I don't really get it, I'm not sure what to say about it. Oh well.

it is about close-minded people, Mary - the kind of people who are not open to hearing other opinions about a topic because they have already made up their minds and will only hear or believe what they already suppose to be true. :-) Thank you. Brooke :-)

Perfect description of my father. Didn't succeed in changing his mind about anything because 'all it hears is what it first supposed. Good thoughts.

Duane, my dad wasn't like that about everything, but some topics, yeah. Thanks so much, Brooke :-)

What a wonderful way to end a mornings read. Your poems, no matter how short, always brings me great delight. Full of wisdom and insight, sometimes humor sometimes not. But, always beautiful in thought and elocution.

Hi Brooke, this is a very well written cinquain poem. And oh so true. I liked the symbol of the locked gate!

Good luck in the competition.

Best wishes,
Malcolm

This feels and sound like something Confuscious would say, Brooke. Very philosophical write, and gives the reader a great deal to think about. Love the way this is worded, especially if all it hears is what is first supposed. Wow! Joyce

A very philosophical cinquai in the works of our imagination. The art work is very precise and meaningful as well; a padded lock, closing out all truths.

Poetry is such a wonderful art form to express deep truths! This is a well written, thought out cinquain. It is so true that a mind is locked if all it hears is what it wants too! Good job! ~:O) J

Again, your concise-ness hit the truth
right on the head. A closed mind is doomed
to live only within itself, and the truth is
rarely found there. Excellent! Carolyn

Hi Brooke,
This is a truism tastefully chained within this well written cinquain. A closed up mind can only rattle around with truths already there before they closed up shop. There is no room for anything else to squeeze in and assert itself. In fact, for some, they've thrown away the key to the padlock so it can't be opened and the chains loosened. It's like talking to a brick wall. But, they want it that way for whatever reason. They, for the most part, are happy wallowing around in the mudfields of truths inside their gaited mind. If they unlock the padlock and throw the gait wide open, it might be too much, upsetting their apple carts and ruining everything they'd so carefully cultivated.

Enjoyed your cinquain and the philosophy presented.
Well done,
Be well,
Art

I agree with your statement completely and I do believe that you if you don't try new experiences and open your mind to those experiences then you will never know what God has made you capable of doing.
