There is no greater loss for a child, than to lose a mother. Fifty years, and still you ache for her. She would be very proud of her daughter, who combines intelligence, creativity, and love of life to craft gorgeous poems. She lives on through you. Your poem is a beautiful tribute to her, but so is your life.

"Motherless Child" is a powerful and warm reflective cinquain. I liked your notes as well, for it brings everything said in the poem into sharper and deeper focus. Well said and written and deeply felt.

no warmth of love's embrace --
I close my eyes in sleep and see
her face.
Beautiful! When you reviewed my piece, you mentioned that you had posted this. I see now what you meant. Your poem speaks of love missed. The wording is wonderful.

It is ironic which days we mark. I remember dates like that too. I think this is a lovely cinquain, my friend. I think your mother would love your writing. It is a wonderful tribute to her. Well done- sam

Oh, wow. My heart really goes out to you. You managed to convey the ache of 50 years of absence in just a few lines. You have a real gift Brooke. Let me know when the anthology comes out.

This poem is so beautiful and thoughtful about your mother. Same as I close my eyes to see my father's face. His anniversary will be 25 years this August.
Thank you for sharing it with us :)

Sorry about your loss. Fifty years without a mother has got to be something of a burden, heck it is a burden great job with the poetry very revealing and honest.

Mothers are not people easily forgotten - they say the first six years are the most important for the development of who a person is at the core, and she was there for all those years. Thank you, Brooke :-)
