I'm so glad you have fond memories of childhood treats, too.
Thank you! :-)

Your poetry always take me back to childhood memories I thought were long forgotten.
I always get a warm nostalgic feeling when I read your poetry.
Yes, the days when someone could actually purchase something with a mere penny.

Your piece brought back fond memories. The debate about the penny has been a on-off, on-off thing since the eighties. I believe the penny will lose its battle and then the nickel, and so on, and so on... We're quickly working toward a society that will have no currency but just an account with numbers in it we use a device embedded into our hands.

I'm tempted to ask if you are in the suburns of Philly. Those roads are about twenty-five minutes from me. This brought back memories. They used to sell it at the ballfield where my brother played little league. I didn't always watch the game so carefully, but my friends and I loved to select our twenty-five cents worth of candy in small paper lunch bags. Terror

I live in West Norriton, between Norristown and Valley Forge.
Hello, fellow Pennsylvanian :-) Glad you have happy memories of childhood treats too! Thanks for the review :-)

I thought so. I am in the Conshohocken area and my parents live in Plymouth Meeting. There used to be a place around there that did kids parties that I took my children to when they were younger. Just curious, have you ever attended the writing conference in Philly? I have never gone, but thought I might try it this year. Wondering how it is?Terror
-
No, have never gone to the conference - I worked for some years for Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Small world. :-)
-
Yes it certainly is. My husband is currently on the school board. T

I will always remember the 2 for a penny double-bubble gum. How about that Stage Plank that could be divided with 3 kids and still be enough sugar to make your Mama crazy?[That may have been the Southern thing]. Ah, the days, eh?
Thanks again for reminders!

Another gem, pearl. Times have definitely changed even since I was akid. YOu never see anyone bend over and pick up a penny anymore. They're not worthy, I guess. I do. Not for the worth, but the opportuinty of sharing some good luck, or handing one to somebody and saying "A penny for your thoughts."
Enjoyed this.

Oh, you have not been following me around because I pick up at least a couple of pennies a week, sometimes more when I'm lucky!! :-) Thanks for your warm review :-)

I love your poem. It brings back memories of when I was a child in the 40's. You could buy three suckers for a penny. My grandma would give me and my brother each a penny and we would run to the candy store. I hope they don't do away with the pennys. Nice poem and good writing. Cheers, Lani2

This brought a huge smile to my face as I recalled my own local corner shop, now a run-down garage.
A wonderful poem taking me down memory lane, well presented with no spag that I could see.
Best wishes

I must agree with you about the penny. In the '50s I was in my teens but I can tell you, if you seen a penny on the ground you picked it up. You have to remember that in the '50s gas was only 13 cents a gallon. So a penny when a long ways. Thank you for reminding us of what it was like. Sometimes we forget.

I remember well the pennies and the corner store decisions. Since 1966 Australia has had decimal currency, I was twelve when we had the change over. Old enough not to have the great memories with the new coins as I did when I was about eight and had a penny to myself.
Thank you for the memories.
The poem is great and the flow and rhythm great also.
