I can see why you look forward to Christmas with mixed feelings, Debbie. What an unfortunate thing to happen to you!

Falls are no fun at all, and I experienced a couple last year as well. All of a sudden, you are falling, and there's nothing you can do about it. That's one area where being a child is a distinct advantage--they don't fall nearly as far and also recover much quicker.

I hope the New Year brings you better luck! - Jim

Thank you so much, Jim, for your kind review! I just felt I couldn't keep this story to myself but I certainly didn't want it coming over as a self-pitying one. I think, with a lot of these things, you've got to keep laughing. As ever, I appreciate all your thoughts. Debbie

You better watch out,
the season is here...
I hope without doubt,
next year's full of cheer...

Tidings should be merry and bright!

I giggled a tad...
(but with you, I say!)
Your tumble was bad,
but you have a way...

To make tidings merry and bright!

I wish you happy new year...
without a single glitch
And only mirth-filled Christmas tears
(And not a Christmas WITCH!)

Sprawl out on your bed,
in slippers and "jams"---
Eat marshmallow treats
and grand Christmas hams...

Christmas shouldn't be such a fright!

(I couldn't help myself ~ Sorry Debbie!)

Stay safe!

No more accidents ever!

Karenina

Dear Teri, thank you so much for your lovely review! I hope it didn't come over too self-pitying because I think you've got to end up laughing at these things sometimes. But probably my best bet to stay in bed next Christmas! Take care (rich coming from me!) Debbie

Well, that doesn't sound like a very merry Christmas. Thankfully, you will be ok and able to celebrate again next Christmas.

You told the story very well, Debbie. Be careful out there! - Jamison

I never realised that being accident prone is actually a condition that some people have a frequent encounter with, it's conceived in the mind, given power by the tongue, (Hebrews 11:1) so yes, I've known people like that.In Proverbs 18:21, it says, "The power of life and death is in the tongue, and those that love its fruit will feast." So we can materialise what's in our heart. It's called prayer. Beautifully written, (it is more complicated than that, I've simplified it a little) blessings Roy

Thank you for sharing this post with us. I couldn't help but laugh, but then felt guilty for laughing at another person's problems. But I'm sorry the way this was written, it's funny.

Thank you so much, Lea, for your really kind and caring review! I think if there had been goose fat around, I probably would have thrown that over myself as well. Really hope you're on the mend. Have been thinking about you a lot over the holidays as I know you've been in a lot of pain. Take good care of yourself for 2024 (we'd better both do that:)) Debbie

Oh , Debbie. I think you should hibernate beneath a volume of blankets from December 23 till December 26. You know, for your own safety.

Well, I'm happy to read from your notes you are on the amends and getting better.

Christmas is behind us and now on to a successful 2024.
Happy new years...
John

The title, "Perils of Pauline." Come to mind immediately. You have certainly had your fair share of mishaps during the supposedly happy season. I am happy to see that it has not dampened your spirits, nor deterred you from giving it yet another try as the years go passing by. Bully for you.

Thank you so much, Nomi! I was worried it might sound like a 'poor me' story which was never intended. So I'm delighted you got the gist of it. Take care Debbie

Hahahaha. This is so good. And, I promise, I'm laughing WITH you, and not AT you! I admire your tenacious spirit, though. A lesser woman/entire family would have cancelled the holiday long ago. You, though, carry on, certain that THIS year all will be merry and bright. Kudos to you all.

Just one teeny spag: the quotation marks in paragraph three after the word consciousness.

Best of luck with this in the contest! xo

It's not in the contest, Elle. I jiggled it around and just pray it doesn't sound like a pity story. It was intended more humorously. Thank you so much. Your critique here is very important to me. Deb xo

You're too kind. I just thought I wouldn't let it go to waste whilst Christmas is fast becoming a distant 'dream' Thanks for noting the errant inverted commas. xo
