Hi GW,

Another well written poem in your series. I am unable to pick a favorite line or phrase because I like them all. You wrote just enough to tell this sad story that speaks to the bravery of a soldier. Well done....chey

Unfortunatley, the sardonic face of war and hurt repeats and repeats in the annals of history. The Bible speaks of the inevitability of war. I think because love is not perfected in man. Excellent imagery in this piece. Blessings, Linda

This work has reached the exceptional level

Our dead will mock the searing heat
Our wounds will blister black
You tell us that our strength was sold
Very strong--you brought the message home!!

To help our country back
What evil times have carnage chosen
For judgment on our lands
With scorn and tears we greet him here
We are ready to make our stand
Now fix bayonets went the battle cry

I am ready to use the gun that is my mouth, the bullets that are my words, just like you has done.

War is ugly no matter if it seems justified or not. It's been part of human psyche since time began. Will it ever change? I'm afraid not. Cheers, Jack

The war to end all wars set the next war into motin. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very easy read.

Hi Deepwater,

I suppose WW1 was eclipsed by WW2 - though it was probably even more brutal and pointless.

This is a good rememberence poem, it has an almost jaunty rhythm to it that is quite poignant.

Another well formed poem, though a bit grim this time.

Not just that war, any war. What is the point of endless slaughter? Granted I believe people have a right to defend themselves, but I can't understand why a person brings it upon themselves to start such a thing. Why? What happened that made them believe they were doing a good thing and worse, they lead others to do the same, to start killing in the name of ... what? Seems so foolish, yet still it goes on. I wonder if the men and women back then prayed that this would be the last one? Nicely done!

Your poem captures the Eastern Front and draws the reader into the moment and mood. (I think "choose" should be "chosen.") I enjoyed your bits of rhyme and alliteration as well.
