Beautiful. I have never heard a mourning dove. It must have a beautiful and haunting melody. Your poem shows how sometimes a message can reach us in the most unique ways. This dove has given you a priceless gift. And you have given us a priceless gift with this poem. Thank you for reposting it. Gretchen

Great poem, and I love Mourning Doves. Being raised and living in the country, I hear them all the time. I have several that feed at my feeders and serenade me in the evenings. Great job. Enjoy your Sunday afternoon. Shirley

I love to sit on my back porch as the sun rises and listen to the birds wake up. We have numerous mourning doves. There call is unique. Thank you for reposting. I am sorry I missed this poem the first time around.

Hi Nancy, you still manage to amaze me with all your writing talent.
Your poem reads and flows well and has good descriptive writing within.

I especially liked:
So every time you hear his song
be sure to smile and sing along
for he will touch your heart with love,

(Very lovely ~ soulful)

Beautiful contemplative photo. A pleasure to read. Nancy, you still got it. Xo. Margaret

Many doves come to my bird feeder, I often see them in pairs. Excellent poem about this beautiful bird. Their cooing is soothing and is pleasant to listen to. I always enjoy poems about birds.

Oh, Nancy, it was so moving! Gave me goosebumps. It's been ages since I write an Octogram and I forgot what a beautiful form it is. Superbly executed, the declarations of love enchant and dazzle, you feel submerged in them.

Loved it. Thank you for the treat.

Thank you very much for the great review and stars, Yelena.
I truly love the Octagram form. It has always been a favorite. It would be a shame to see it die. Thanks again! Nancy:)

Mournful seems so at odds with the idea of love. The phrase 'love~lorn call' clears this up. I have a bird clock and the sound of this dove at seven twice a day is the only one I can remember. It's haunting.

Hi Nancy, It's great to read a terrific Octogram again on FS! Your poem speaks loud and clear of your love and appreciation of the mourning dove. All of your rhyming pairs look good and your meter is excellent.
The one suggestion I have for you would to consider a little different wording on the three lines that start out with "he sings" He coos? trills?

I often wonder how Sally is doing and hope she is well.
I hope you are doing well too! You may have inspired me to write
another octogram.
All the best,
Rodger
