As always, your work holds the reader's attention throughout. The chapter follows a realistic sequence of events, paragraphs transition beautifully, and the cliffhanger makes one wish to "turn the page." Great job!

Thanks for your continued encouragement, WryWriter. Glad you are still enjoying this.
My time for writing and reviewing is pleasantly curtailed at present by the homecoming of a daughter and granddaughter. Hence my delayed response.
All the best, Tony

Fishy Chapter. Interesting turns left and right. You still have our attention. One wonders what Helen is up to now. No spags. Don't forget to look at my puns (Geoff speaking)

Thanks. Will take a look.

My, this is getting so complicated. Helen is either really clever and has everything under control or she's working for some other agency. I liked the way you make us feel Charles' anxiety while waiting.

Ah, so my suspicions seem to have been right all along, Tony. The good Helen is a Femme Fatale, after all. Now what is the urgent business at the embassy, I wonder. I just found a minor thing:
commanded an clear view back to the square = commanded a clear view back to the square
Wonderful chapter as always with great pace. All best. Ulla:))

I liked the intrigue of this chapter. Helen has obviously turned her back on Charles, a bit unforeseen by him, and it leaves us wondering who she is really in with; is she playing everyone off against each other, and is only out for herself? Or is she working for the terrorists and the drug lords? I liked the little part where Charles notes the sunlight on the Grand Palais and the bronze light on the Eiffel Tower; a nod to his travel writer obsessions. And what is Alain up to? He seems spiteful to Charles, jealous maybe. estory

As you know, I've had doubts about Helen all along. Is she about to prove me right? Now, Bamforth has called Charles to come in. He must be in danger. I'm eager to see Charles escape for this madness.

Comment from Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
There is definitely something wrong. Has Helen betrayed Charles? It seems to me she has been playing a very tight game and now that Bamforth has phoned insisting Charles come right away, it furthers my concern for him. This is superb writing, my friend. Well done and hurry with the next part!! :)) Sandra x

Well, it does seem as though Helen is showing a different side of her personality/allegiance, Tony. You did a great job with the direction of this chapter. It was intense which held my attention for start to finish. Seems there is much left unsaid in this story. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Was it jealousy making my gorge rise, or was it fear that Helen would end up double-crossing both of us? I wasn't sure. (This is very telling of Charles trust of Helen.)
You did a great job of leaving us wanting more. I can't wait to find out what Helen is up to this time. Great job of writing.

You've worked so very hard on this story - and kept the characters individual and separate. Also kept the plot suspenseful and moving right along. Good job.
