You are such a pretty WAC, and I salute women who served well their country. I enjoyed reading your experience as a member of the military. Thanks for sharing.

HI
I enjoyed reading your story, I can see how proud you are of having the experience of being one of the last WACS, before they changed it to Women in the army. I bet your Mum was proud of you.
Well done

Women have the right to join any form of the military. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read.

Wow: 'last of the WACs.' That is historical and important. These are fond memories of your induction into service for your country. One thing that impressed me about your essay is your desire to get out of Dodge. As you write:
"My mom's tears didn't affect me as I got into his car and prepared for the first big adventure of my life."
You told your story in a quick manner which was compelling.
Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for your service to your country.

I really enjoyed reading your reasons for joining the American Army and would love to read about some of those great memories in the future. Thank you sharing so honestly. Amazing looking back how grown up we believed we were at seventeen.

Army outfits, Navy ships, all have unit loyalty. To be just another face in a crowd
steals something from a trooper. My shorebased Navy rating moved people from
base to base as individuals. It paid high, but had no devoted members...no teams.
Sad. Excellent memoir.

The brave things we do in our youth! I'm sure it was a good move for you to enlist, even though it was bound to be challenging. Thank you for the time you spent serving in our military.

It seems funny now, that so many women had to be given specific jobs and were denied others. It may well be that they didn't want those combat or heavy equipment roles, but that's not the same as automatically disqualified. Your story is well formed and has the tone and voice of someone wanting to break away and start adulthood. Good read.

Thank you for your time to read and review. Yes, it is sad that in 1976 women were only allowed to serve in a few jobs. My daughter is in the Air Force now, and there are still some jobs denied to 'the girls.' I appreciate your comments!
