This should be a cautionary tale for young people hoping to break into show business. I know of some people from community theater who tried to make the leap but eventually gave it up. One was an extremely talented singer. Sounds like Nicole will be separated from Jeff as she's on tour with the cruise line. She's already feeling her age! I'm sure that's true, especially as she realized she was the oldest one in the show. She had foresight in planning an alternative career as a speech therapist. You must have been very patient throughout her struggles. Great write. judi

I empathized since I wanted to be an actress too. My parents discouraged me. I didn't want to do that to Nichole. And yes, she was intelligent enough to make other plans.

You were wise to let her pursue her own path. There are always opportunities to enjoy amateur theater, even if you don't make it into the big time. judi

This is sweet to see your relationship renewed with your beloved daughter. But then new challenges are in the offing...isn't human to expect one's parents to drop everything and continue to support and applaud no matter what? Interesting story...JB

I could feel your pride and excitement in the tone of this post, Shari. The feeling of reconnecting with your daughter and to see her back to her old self...My mom said that about me when I got my divorce. lol
It looks like your answer is going to be a negative on taking a cruise. I hope it doesn't put a damper on your trip to see her.

Thanks for catching the SPAG, BG. Sounds as if your mom didn't like your choice of a man either.

This is a wonderful story. I love to see healing relationships. Kids are hard enough as adults, it gets worse if their other half leaves something to be desired.

I love how you tell your story.

What is it about being able to help your children obtain another dream, that feels so good? I can imagine how pleased you were, not only being able to help out with the computer, but to know her new employment separated her from the one person who was stopping you guys from being as close as you were.
I hope it didn't backfire when she asked if you were going to join one of the cruises she performed on!

This well written chapter is again interesting. I enjoy the excitement of getting a computer and a job on a cruise ship. Wow! That would definitely beat the heck out of waiting tables. Your daughter sounds a bit self-centered, if you don't mind me saying so. Getting an attitude because you hadn't thought of taking the cruise with her? This chapter held my attention very well, my friend.

Always with respect,

I hate to agree, but she did tend to be self-centered. I'm trying to figure out if she still is!

Yes or no? Hmmm, why would that put your relationship in jepordy? Relationships are funny things, ain't they?

Nice to see a chapter light on drama and sad things. This one gives the reader the time to breathe and recuperate. You had been hitting pretty heavy with one tragedy after another. I know that's life but good things happen too. Ever wonder why it is the negative that leaves such lasting impact? Why not the positive?

You daughter seems prette self-assured. I'm thinking she did well on the cruise but will have to wait and see.

Oh, the dance with the complex relationship with a daughter. We want for them, their happiness and we want to be able to get off the "egg shells"... You tell this story so well...I relate to the relationship you have with your daughter. I fixed the poem review. I used all my sixes yesterday, or this piece would receive one.

Thanks, Maggie. Appreciate the virtual six. I still feel as if I have to tread carefully when talking to Nichole. Never sure when she'll get her back up!

Well, I have an idea as to why the management liked the female lead singer so well. Especially if the members of said management were male. But, I won't go there, Shari, LOL.

Holland American Cruise Lines, huh? That sounds pretty swanky. My wife and I have always dreamed of going on a cruise but could never afford it. Perhaps one day soon. Still, what an awesome sounding opportunity, and she gets to leave Jeff behind for awhile. Maybe she'd meet someone else.

Now, I just wonder what your answer was to Nichole about taking one of the cruises? I guess I'll just have to wait and sea...e-r-r-r, heh-heh, see, LOL!

Yeap, I was hoping she'd meet someone else, Deano. The lead singer had big boobs, the opposite of Nichole. Cruises were expensive back then. Later, prices went down. Now, they seem high again. Figure at least $100 pp each day and that doesn't count tips.

Well, that explains why I've never been on a cruise, LOL. :)

I was waiting for this continuation, things picked up well here, she has a great back up plan and got a chance to have a little fun with her dream of entertaining. Can't imagine what will happen next.

That cruise job gave her much needed confidence. More surprises in store.
