This is a treat to find a poem about WWI and a horse who was a hero. He is a dedicated soldier. This is a fabulous poem that pays tribute to heroes of WWI.

Some may loose their passion in their writing, but you continue to write with flair and can tell a story such as this with finesse to let us feel we are there.

Hi Kace,

I saw the movie "War Horse" but don't know if is fashioned after the Warrior horse in your poem. You have penned a fine poem for the contest. Also your author's notes are informative. Thirty three is a long time for a horse to live. You have chosen excellent words to express the theme, your flow is even and the poem compelling. Well done and good luck in the contest...blessings, chey

Hullo Aussie ....

What you have written here, especially in your Notes at the end, is full of interesting and little-known information about World War I ... and, in particular, about a very brave Horse - 'Warrior.'
So often, Horses are victims during wars and I have often wondered what goes through their minds in the height of battle.
Thank you for sharing this with us. You are very well informed.
Love from .... Nanette Mary.

Hello Nanette Mary, So pleased that you liked the poem (took me ages to write) AABAB is not my favorite form of writing. Horses are in my blood, loyal animals and yes, must of been hell for them in WW1. Love, Kay.

Absolutely super poem Aussie

It is so ironic but the French were always accused of being horse meat eaters and we know the reason why. I have no doubt Warhorse was an inspiration. It should never have been a war for troops and horses. A war that should have ended all wars and yet there are littles stories of bravery and survival. I think the last surviving British WW1 soldier died in Australia aged 110 last year.

Super poem and a great topic.

Blessings

Spike

How lovely, your rhyming quatrains of horse and rider.
So sad, the loss of life, both human and beast, so loyal to rider, carrying them into battle.

I watched the movie about the WarHorse and it was so sad.

This is an excellent written poem reflecting WW1 and the horse brigade.

Favourite stanza is...

Tide turned to World War One
Across the seas to foreign France
Warrior's leisure days were done
Man and horse led solemn dance

Loved your word play. well enjoyed and educational for me.

Great job

Regards
Tia

I had not heard this tale of Jack and Warrior and found it to be most interesting. The artwork goes well with the theme of this poem. Great rhyming with "down" and "mound". I enjoyed this very much.
