I enjoyed the way this piece read. I also enjoyed the note on this type of poetry. The short lesson on "daDUMdaDUM" made me smile. I am always taken by works that can follow a true structure, as this is a part of my writing that really requires work. An excellent piece.

brooke,
i like the whole scenario. it is ironic that during the day predators and prey can walk around the water hole and be at peace. then the time comes for the hunt. things change. beautiful. imagery is excellent.
love,
barbara

Oh my God, this poem was so realistic it gave me chills. It was so amazingly well written and descriptive. Your writing displays a vast array of subjects.

Brooke

Your research once again is marvelous and you take the reader on a safari...much like the one Jade writes of. Your words describe the moments, though sad but inevitable, perfectly. The beauty of the zebra is not what intrigues the jackal...hunger satisfaction is his drive. WEll done and enjoyable.

Now this is what I was talking about - This is the way my mind thumps along and so me the verse is perfect - especially when read aloud. It is full of the truths of life, and is even a bit scary. I couldn't help but feel that I was the zebra. Great form and excellent notes on its contruction. Rose

Thank you so much, Rose - I'm so glad this worked well for you aloud as I believe all poetry is meant to be read that way. I am most grateful for this generous response to my poem :-) Brooke

Brooke, You are such a talented and skilled poet. I wish I knew as much about meter as you do. Nature is often very cruel. It must be awful to live in such constant fear. I believe God does things for a reason but I'd like to ask him why he created animal to feed on other animals.

I have been there, and this, without a doubt, describes it perfectly. I witnessed a lion kill of a zebra, and while tragic, it is necessary. I'm keeping this one. AWESOME! Lea Ann

You've been there - I am green with envy!!! But since you gave me a lovely six, I'll try to keep my jealousy in check. Thanks so much for your generosity, Lea Ann. :-) Brooke

I went to Africa in the Spring of 2001 --- what a dynamic experience. For the first few nights, we stayed at the Sweetwater Tent Camp (YES -- IN TENTS) inside the reserve. Wart hogs and baboons running amok through the tents an luggage. OY. You have reminded me of so many things I had stored away - perhaps it is time I dust them off and write alittle about that amazing world myself.

You deserved all 6 ... enjoy. XO Lea Ann

This is my type of favorite poetry-wildlife, rhyme, meter, and words that I understand. (I'm not exactly the brightest bulb in the chandelier) Also, along that same line, I appreciate the notes you posted.

The only thing I question is in the content-I never heard of jackals bringing down a zebra-only smaller game. Does that really happen?

Other than that ? I just love this. I know you don't need any more, but you've got a new fan. The problem is I'll never be able to read them as fast as you write them. Patty

Thank you, PattyBee - Yes, jackals do take down zebra, usually in packs. I've seen it in documentaries and looked it up before writing to double check. I always research what I write about :-) I'm glad you enjoyed this. Brooke :-)
