This is such a sweet little heartfelt piece. Sometimes something so small can change everyone's day. I try to give that a little everyday to the people I come into contact with but it is so easy to forget to do. Thanks for the reminder..

Hi Brooke (Again again)
Heart-warming real life stuff. I have to admire your colleague's open mindedness taking his eleven year old daughter to a homeless shelter -- some folks would be scared of frightening their kids. I applaud him! And the little girl too -- and your poem of course!
Best Wishes to all three of you and congrats.
Keith

I had a church couple who used to bring their kids to serve to a different homeless program I ran at the church - they just loved to be helpers and feel useful and get smiles from people - I wish people realized kids truly get something out of this experience :-) Thanks, Keith. Brooke

My heart is warmed by your naani and your author notes. It is humbling to know the even one child can make such a difference in our world. Bless you and your little helper for your compassion and kindness. I can see how this won in the contest.

You are so welcome. I'll bet your poem will give her encouragment when you show it to her. Sometimes it's nice to be acknowledged for good deeds, especially when your young.

Brooke,

This is an excellent short poem, very short and to the point. Your four lines express everything important about Lydia's work, and your author notes just give a few more details. I enjoyed this poem, and I couldn't find anything to criticize.

Another fabulous poem to add to the list. How wonderful it must be to be able to put thoughts, frustrations, anger, love, kindness and any other emotions to paper, and have it turn out so eloquently and elegantly. You never fail to elicit some strong emotion from me.

Thank you for the great read. Good luck in the contest.
Regards, anabelle

Gosh, I thought I had reviewed this and here it is. Lovely little girl in the artwork- -and a gesture given that no one could pass us or refuse- -some would appreciate the smile even more than the pie, I'm sure.

Thank you. A beautiful naani about a special child.

Excellent poem (as usual). I agree, there is something about a child's smile that can help people feel more relaxed and present oriented. Good luck in the contest, brooke.

Oh, this was lovely. I think it's wonderful to begin encouraging servanthood at an early age to teach them to think of others. I loved the contrast between the smiles and pie, excellent way of showing that she was serving joyfully. Perfect form, excellent word choices, nice flow. Terrific job!

Excellent, as usual. Food for the body is necessary for life, but food for the soul is important to fill the need to continue wanting to live. Excellent contest entry. Best of luck, Brooke. Blessings, Linda
