Great job. No criticism in the poem or the authors's notes. I'm a christian too. Last year I gave up chocolate and reading. Wow. Never had a tougher time. (if your wondering I had to give up both cuz one just went with the other. Temptations and all that. lol) Oh well. As a fishy friend would say, "just keep swimming" haha. Great job. Good luck with all of your writing.

Dear Brooke, Your poem and your personal message are very inspiring. I think poetry is one of the ways we can effect change in people's hearts. Thank you for always seeing the long view and showing it to the rest of us in your well turned phrases. Ru

I truly respect your view. My mother is a lutheran pastor and Lenten season is a very special time of year for our family. What we give up for 40 days is nothing compared to what some never have. I liked the way your slapped a dose of reality on many as they await Easter.

This is a most thoughtful message in this poem, Brooke, and one that I hope we readers will identify with and take heed of. It is easy for those of us who are fortunate in our daily lives to give up something for Lent. If only we could give it to those who have nothing to give up. But yet, those with nothing, who have true faith, will find something they think they can do without to give up -- even if it is only their equivalent of ketchup! Good writing. Lyla

Hullo Adewpearl ....
What you have said in this well-written poem as well as in your Notes at the end, is so very true. Daily, on the news, we see pictures of starving children who have nothing - let alone something to give up .... and we hear of homeless people whilst we watch reports of spectacular fireworks displays that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars or pounds or euros.
Like you, my thoughts always turn in the direction of those who so greatly need our help.
Thank you for writing this and for sharing it with us.
With love from .... Nanette Mary.

A writing for a purpose is often much more significant both in form and in effect. I'd give you a six star but I've already given one out today and am trying to teach myself not to give away six stars too fast. Anyway Congratulations on another successful poem.

You rock, you know that? You take something that I have always thought was kind of useless, and make it meaningful......Yvette would love your idea, I know I do!
